Does anyone have a Pentax K110D or K100D, if you have how good are they?
IMGP2480

I'm thinking of buying a pentax K100D or a pentax K110D. Does anyone have one? What do you think?
I already have all the lenses for pentax (KAF fitting)

The K110D and the K100D are the same camera with one exception: the K100D adds built-in Shake Reduction. With that in mind, here are two in-depth reviews for the K100D:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentaxk1 00d/page24.asp
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_revi ews/k100d_pg7.html
Both models are good cameras for the price, but in my opinion the K100D offers better value.
If you can afford just a tad more, and if you don't already have a collection of Pentax lenses, also consider the Canon Rebel XTi and the Nikon D50. These entry level models are at least as good as the Pentax - the Canon XTi even offers a 10 megapixel sensor, although they do NOT have built in image stabilization. If you want image stabilization with Canon/ Nikon, you have to buy premium lenses. The advantage of Canon/ Nikon, is that you have access to a vastly larger selection of lenses and a limitless upgrade path. So if you see yourself investing hundreds of dollars in this hobby over the years, Canon and Nikon are better systems to start out with.

Can I use the Canon 166A flash in a Pentax K100D?
IMGP2397

I just found my dad's old Canon 166A flash (from a Canon AE-1). I'm going to a wedding tonight and I'm wondering if it'll work in my Pentax K100D DSLR. Will it work?

All of the Canon A-series flashes are safe voltage wise for use with any modern cameras. The Canon AE-1 has electronics that are even more sensitive than those found in most digital cameras, so all of the A-series flashes have a sync voltage of 6 volts.

With that said, though, I'm not sure how the two extra communication pins on the Canon flash would interact with the Pentax. If you are going to use it, I'd suggest using a piece of electrical tape to cover everything in the Pentax hotshoe except the big center contact.

Honestly, though, you won't really be gaining anything over the built-in popup flash. That's really the purpose that flashes like the 166A served in the Canon product line in the days before built-in pop-up flash existed. I believe the power is pretty comparable to the pop-up flashes in most SLRs.

Can I set my photos to 300dpi from my Pentax K100d?
IMGP2390

Can I set my photos to 300dpi (or any other setting for that matter) from my Pentax K100d?

You know, without having to use Photoshop...

Thanks for the nod, fhotoacedigipro.

The camera's intial image is set by default and you can not change it. The good news is that it doesn't matter. It all works out in the end. Read the link in fhotoace's answer to see why. If it didn't, all of the manufacturers would change to the "best" setting and promote that in their marketting, wouldn't they?

How much can I sell a Pentax K100D for you think?
IMGP2464

I bought a K100D about a 9 months ago for about $420 with rebate. Now I see the new K200D. How much would a prefect condition K100D go for on ebay you think? I would include the kit lens.

Yes it is in perfect condition. Not even a single scratch!

The best way to find this out would be to goto ebay and do a search for completed auctions.

  • What kind of digital SLR camera is best for beginners? | Digital Photo

I've taken a recent interest in photography – I've always taken pictures with a normal digital point and shoot camera, but I really really want a beginner SLR camera, which can take really nice pictures but is reasonably priced. I don't know ANYTHING about SLR cameras, but the ones I've looked at so far are the Nikon D40, and the Canon Rebel, and the Pentax K110…. any advice?

I use Canons. I like this brand because they are aggressive with their research and are first when it comes to new technology. They also have great lens's. You can either buy used or start with a basic digital body and then upgrade later. But do invest in a good lens as that lens will be good for better cameras to come. You can buy them used as well.

I buy most of my equipment from

The very best bargain budget DSLR is the Olympus Evolt E-510 10-megapixel camera with image stabilization, active view LCD, automatic internal lense cleaner and comes with a two-lense start kit which consists of a normal lense and telephone [up to 150 mm] via amazon.com for around $665 [without tax and free shipping]. It generates 10-bit 11 meg RAW image files and is very light to handle.
