I have the Pentax k10d and was thinking about trading it in for a brand that has a wider selection of lenses and better auto focus such as Nikon or Canon. Which camera from one of those brands do you feel is a good trade?
You might look at a Canon user which wants to try K-7.

what are your opinions about this camera? Pros Cons? Unique Features that ACTUALLY WORK...many claim one thing and then its nowhere near as affective as they say...Better than Canon Rebel XTi?
Ive heard some things about it here on Answers from other people, but not too much...any help would be nice!
THANKS!
The K10D is included in this review. Go to the PopPhoto site and follow some links that you will find dealing with the Pentax and other cameras.
The February 2007 issue of Popular Photography has an article where they compared the top 10 MP DSLR's. I took the scores and ranked the cameras similar to the way Formula 1 gives championship points. I just gave 5 for 1st place down to 1 for last place, splitting the difference when cameras tied in their catagories.
They evaluated Image Quality (giving this twice as much weight as anything else), Ease of Use, Control, and System Flexibility.
The final order and my scores are:
Nikon D80 - 17.5 points
- BEST in Image Quality, Control and System Flexibility
Canon Rebel XTi (400D) - 13.5 points
- Tied for best in System Flexibility
Pentax K10D - 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Samsung GX10 - 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Sony Alpha 100 - 7 points
- LAST in Image Quality, Ease of Use and System Flexibility."
Then again, this is the same magazine that put the Sony Alpha 100 dead last in this comparison named it the camera of the year in the previous issue! (In a follow-up to this seeming error, Pop Photo published the explanation that only the D80 and the Sony had been tested by the end-of-year deadline for choosing the Camera of the Year. Sony won on the strength of low price and built-in image stabilization. The other 3 that beat Sony in shoot-out were not tested until after the Camera of the Year was selected, because they were not yet available.)

If you want to get the "best" for the real world, consider the Nikon D200 or Canon 30D if you can afford it. For about $300-500 less, look at the results of the recent PopPhoto test and choose from that list according to your taste.
Personally, I use a Nikon D200 and would recommend it without hesitation to someone who has some knowledge of photography. For someone who wants the "best," but is starting with somewhat of an "entry level" knowledge base, I'd suggest the Nikon D80.
There are people out there who will state their preference for the Canon cameras and I will not argue with them. The Canon 30D and 400D are excellent cameras as well.
You would have to visit a camera store or camera department and pick them up and see what you think.

Here's another reference from outside the photographic press. Consumer reports compared the Nikon D80, Canon Rebel XTi and Sony Alpha. Personally, I'd say that the Nikon came out on top here, also. It beats the Sony in "noise-free ISO" with an acceptable rating at ISO 1600 (kind of optimistic, I think...) compared to the Sony's ISO 400. It beats the Canon (in my opinion) by having a spot meter that the Canon does not offer.

The next thing to consider is what lens to start with and where you go from there. If you are new to this, I'd say to just get the "kit" lens, which seems to be the 18-135 lens for the D80, and get started. Once you know where you really want to go with your photography, Nikon has an almost unlimited family of lenses to choose from.

I am looking for a digital SLR and am considering getting the Pentax K10D. I would like to know if the lenses that fit on the K1000 (35mm SLR) would fit on the digital camera as well. I have a lot of lenses for it, so this would be my cheapest choice in the long run.
Yes, Pentax still uses the K-mount, introduced and made popular by the K-series. The lens will obviously be all manual and you'll have to dial in the focal length for focus confirmation and image stabilization. I think the crop factor is 1.5x, so a 50mm lens would have an equiv. FOV of a 75mm lens.
Is there a way to have the camera (K10d) fire on continuous shot mode using the remote control?
There only seems to be a way to have the shutter release once after pressing the shutter button on the remote control or release with a 3 second delay. But is there a way for the camera shutter to release continuously once pressing the button on the remote control?
I'm assuming you're talking about the IR remote. No. In short, the IR remote really needs some work as it doesn't do much in bulb mode either.
You can get a cable-release, put the camera into continuous shooting mode, and do what what you want. A cable release is just like standing there holding down the shutter-release on the body. You can get an OEM one on eBay for a couple of bucks and then get a 20' extension cord to add to it if you need.
The K20D added "interval shooting" where you can setup number of shots, duration, how often...which would get around the limitations of the fairly useless IR remote.

Shooting with a Pentax K10D: Taylor-Hobson Ental II 4.25 inch f ...
Usually built around a very simple optical formula, these lenses are very well corrected to offer high performances over a flat plane (they are meant for film printing). So, they are likely to reach a better level of sharpness and contrast from edge to edge of the image than the equivalent "standard" camera lenses. The cheapest ones usually have three or four elements, while the most sophisticated ones use optical schemes with five or six elements, and sometimes some apochromatic glass. These lenses are not famous for their speed, the fastest one seen has an f/stop of 2.8 wide open but, because of their usage domain, who needs faster ? Most of these enlarger lenses are available with a standard M39x1 thread mount, which means that, for use on a bellow, an adapter ring is required most of the times. Unluckily, the Ental II used here has an M37 thread mount so, while waiting for an adapter from Hong-Kong, i just used a T2-to-M42 mount, with some adhesive tape around the base of the lens to...
