Pentax K2000

I already have a digital camera a Canon Powershot A590 but it lacks the ability to change lenses. I'm looking to upgrade to a DSLR camera and i ran across this camera Pentax K2000. Is this a good camera to buy or is there something better i can buy?

Buy the newer K-x, it's a replacement for the K2000. The K-x is 650 with kit lens and comes in either white, red, blue, or black. It also has HD video recording, live view, 4.7 FPS, 11 AF points, and up to 12,800 ISO, which is a HUGE improvement over the K2000 and is WELL WORTH the extra pricing over the K2000. I would never get the K2000 with this differential in pricing, I would save up the extra money and get the K-x over it instead. The new K-x has iso levels exceeding the Nikon D300s and D90 which are flagships in APS-C noise levels, with 650 USD you can get better iso noise levels. This camera is a no-brainer and must-have for anybody who knows the technological side of DSLR's and wants to get into the entry-level league. This 12,800 shot below took my breath away, there is no APS-C sensor that will take images at 12,800 with more clarity than the K-x. http://www.lismore.net/images/kx/2009102 4-IMGP0445.jpg

This is a wonderful camera and quite capable. It even has some super digital filters not mentioned in the review. As promised, this is the picture ...

I am a 17 year old high school student and I am taking a few photography classes. I need a good starter DSLR camera with interchangeable lens. I'm trying not to spend more than $400, but these kinds of cameras are pricey. Is this a good camera? If not, where can I find a good one that isn't going to empty my wallet?

The K2000 is a great camera for beginners, and is something that you can really grow into. Its features and image quality will allow you to explore the finer points of photography, and with Pentax lenses going for cheap on eBay, you'll find that investing in the Pentax system won't leave you bankrupt.

You may also want to look into Nikon's D40x and Canon's 1000D. Personally, I'd prefer the Pentax, as these two cameras offer too little features for the student to grow into.

Im new to photography, im intrested but not super serious, i just want it to take some artistic pictures and some of landscapes and friends and family. I have a low budget and these two seem like good choices. I have already been to the store and held them both. So if anyones has any opinions and info please.

Go with the Pentax K2000 with built-in-the-box image stabilization and the accessory lenses are very affordable. Unlike the Nikon lenses, VR or otherwise which are fairly expensive accessories.

I looked up lenses for the pentax on

and there was a list of different types. I'm not sure which one I could use for the pentax K2000.

All of them.

Any Pentax K mount lens, that is all bayonet mount lenses made since about 1975 for Pentax SLR and DLSRs, work on the K2000.

The older lenses may not have the full functionality of newer lenses, ie a manual focus lens is still a manual focus lens. Some of the older lenses only meter properly in full manual mode.

Screw mount lenses will also work if you use the Pentax adaptor.

First you'll need to find out what mount the Sigma lens has.

If its an older Canon FD mount then look for an FD to K mount adapter.

If its a Nikon N mount then look for an N to K mount adpter.

If its an M42 (screw) mount then look for an M42 to K mount adapter.

etc.

Of course, Sigma markets lenses with the Pentax K mount.
