I got a pentax k7 an have no clue how to use the HDR option?

I would like to know is the settings are in the camera or in photo shop?

HDR is a post processing procedure.

You do it by taking a number of exposures at a stop difference and then combining them in PS or a program such as Photomatix or the like.

There are numerous tutorials (good and bad) on the www.
Here is the first one from a simple search

Pentax K7 is it worth the hype?

I asked a question a couple of weeks back about Canon 500d vs Nikon D90 vs Nikon D5000 where it was apparent the Nikon d90 is considered a better model.
I have always used Pentax from the film versions to my first dSLR and was wondering if perhaps I should be going with the Pentax K7 above these other models.
Any thoughts or suggestions.

If you have any of Pentax's classic prime lenses from then the K7 is a no brainer.

It should not be compared to the cameras you mentioned as it is a league above them. It belongs with the Nikon D300s and Canon 50D.

It is a pro level camera with weather sealing and no scene modes.

The inbuilt shake reduction means all lenses are stabilized to reduce camera shake at slow shutter speeds.

Shutter speed settings on Pentax K7?

I am considering getting the new Pentax K7 in a few months. I've used Pentax cameras for over 30 years and all my old lenses will work on the new camera. I read a review, however, that says the shutter speed can't be set on the K7 and I can't find any mention of this in any other articles or specifications of the camera I've read. Does anyone know if this is true? It seems kind of ridiculous to produce a camera that you couldn't set the shutter speed on...maybe a cheap one...but not one costing over $1000.
First, thanks to the first two people who answered my question, although you didn't really answer it...at least you took the time...I do appreciate that.

Jim A - you sound like you work for Adorama. I've already looked at all the specs for the camera. They don't clarify the actual question I asked. And I don't want to change brands. Did you miss the part about being able to use my old Pentax lenses with the new camera? I have at least $2,500 invested in lenses and don't want to start over.

fhotoace - No, I don't trust the review...that's why I'm asking. I've already read the review you suggested, as well, (along with many others) and as much as I'd like to go to a local camera store to check out the camera, I have yet to find a store in my area that has one.

What I really need is for someone who actually owns one of these cameras to let me know if there is a completely manual setting for the shutter speed.

Hi Joe,

The reviewer would have been talking about video mode. It's true that you can't set the shutter speed for shooting video. I'm not sure whether other DSLRs that shoot video allow you to set the shutter speed for video.

As you would probably expect, the K-7 allows setting the shutter speed -- for still photos -- in manual exposure mode and shutter-priority exposure mode.

You can also set it directly in TAv (shutter and aperture priority) mode, in which you set the aperture and shutter speed, and the camera sets the ISO for correct exposure.

You can also set it directly in Sv (sensitivity priority) mode, if you configure that mode in the menu to also allow you to set shutter speed with the other dial, so that you're setting ISO and shutter speed, and the camera sets the aperture for correct exposure.

You can also set the shutter speed in hyper-program mode (also known as program-shift), in which the camera sets the aperture and shutter speed, and you turn a dial to move one down and the other up or vice versa.

And of course, you also have Bulb mode, in which the shutter remains open as long as you hold down the shutter release, presumably by cable on a tripod.

I think that about covers it as far as setting the shutter speed on the K-7.

BTW you can confirm all this in the manual:

BTW -- don't you hate it that you can't just visit a camera store to see for yourself? It's all but impossible to find Pentax DSLRs in camera stores anymore. Last I checked, the Fry's Electronics in my area did have one, but it was just the entry-level model.

Good luck and have fun!

Greg

what is better a pentax kx or pentax k7???????

Better for what? Kx is an entry level camera, while k7 is a high level model for enthusiasts or semi-pros. On paper, the k7 is the best by far. The best for you? Who knows.
