My photographer wanted to charge me over $2000 for the album. I couldn't afford it, so I just grabbed the files and now looking for options. I don't want cheap stuff such as blurb or picaboo. Their albums won't last. I am looking to get what photographers offer but for lower price.
Try http://www.blendedmotion.com they do amazing design and have pretty big collection of albums.
I posted this question 13 hours ago and got 9 answers, Id just like to get some more answers, so here is the Q:
Hi! Well we are finally getting around to having the album made, and we have a choice of magazine style layout where the photos are printed directly on the album pages, or regular matted style. I cant decide. What do you have and why did you choose it?
Most of our photos are photojournalistic style if that makes a difference. Few posed shots.
We also have all (hundreds) of the photos taken in high resolution on CD. This album is just part of the package, but we can print and make our own albums in the future as we like since we own all the photos.
I was going to say definitly matted style, but since you have the photos on CD, I guess it doesn't matter. I think I would still prefer them matted, but the magazine style could be cool, too. You could always make the matted version later on, but you wouldn't be able to do the magazine style later on (at least not as easily).

Def. go magazine style! That's what I'm doing. I'm also doing the photo journalistic style pictures for our wedding. I hate everyone standing all posed with fake smiles. I want a real story so kudos to you!!! I just love the clean modern look of the magazine style. It's like a picture story book of your big day and IDK... I just think sometimes the matted ones, after a while, start to look kind of "messy". Mine still is going to be a hardcover though just because it keeps my pictures safe. That is what I am doing though. Do whatever you think looks best. Have you asked your photographer to show you samples of both? It always helps to see one already made in person! If I were you I'd just go with the magazine album. You already have all the images on CD full res so if later you want to make a different kind of album you can use your CD to print them and make a matted one in a new layout. Hope that helped out a little.
We have been married nearly a year, and still haven't selected our album :(
It is sooo hard to select the photos we want. Our album has 20 pages ~ which will fit 40 photos. Or, if we want a collage style, we can select 65 photos. (This album is flat & glossy, like a magazine ~ not the old fashioned mounted picture album)
Anyway, we have narrowed our choices down to 100 ~ still 35 over our limit! :(
How many pictures did you lovely brides have? Any advice to help with the editing?
(By the way, we are planning on making our own crafty scrapbook type album ... but for now, we are working on our "official" album)
Putting the wedding album together was so intimidating. My album had the flat glossy look and feel to it too. I love that style. It is soooo cool because the studio would take a photo and make that the background for the page. So, the background of one page is a close-up of my dress.
The first time I sat down to do it, I filled up half of the album pages and the ceremony hadn't even started yet. I put it aside...not to look at again for another 6 months. I think putting the wedding album together was the most stressful part of the entire wedding process for me. In my situation, the photographer works for one of the best studios in Chicago and his sister was one of my bridesmaids. So, we had over 1,200 photos to choose from!!!
Finally what I did was I created a spreadsheet in Excel with as many tabs as we had pages in the wedding album. I split it up into defineable segments so that it told a story in a logical order. For example, pages 1 - 3 were of me and my bridesmaids/family. Pages 4 - 6 were of my fiance and his groomsmen. Pages 7 & 8 were of my bonus daughters. Pages 9 - 12 were of the ceremony, etc.
Once I did that, I was able to trim down which photos I wanted.
Good luck!
