What should an ideal Photo Editor be? What should it do?

Think out of Photoshop or paint.net and the likes, what is your ideal Photo Editor? What should it do to be called your tool for life?

For myself, an ideal Photo software should be easy to use, intuitive, cheap, help me share photos, organize photos, nice photo album, great special effects...

I don't like Photoshop because it is hard to use, despite the many good things I heard about this program.

Whats yours?

I use a program called Memory Manager. This program is inexpensive (under $40) and allows me to sort the photos into folders and subfolders, organize by date, place, who is in the photo, etc, edit the photos - crop, red eye, clone, light, despeckle, a lot more. Plus it allows me to share, email print the photos right from the program to either my printer or a web based printing service. I can organize photo albums and plan them ahead of time so that I have all the right photos in the right direction (landscape vs. portrait). I love this program. It far surpasses all that are out there.

This is not sold in stores, but is easily ordered. Ask me how.

How do you add text boxes to a photo on a mac? We're trying to do cover art and want our band and album names

on the front. How do you do this in photo editor or what program do you use to save the picture and text boxes as one thing to use as cover art in Itunes? Thank you!

First make sure to crop your picture to a square, so that it is the same size as other albums when imported into a music player. your best bet is to find someone who has professional photo editing software, such as adobe photoshop (you might even be able to find someone on here who will do it for you) and have them do it. there are some free programs that will let you edit on mac, but they aren't as powerful. one to try is imagewell, you can find it at http://xtralean.com/IWOverview.html

where can i get a photo editor with collage exactly like this?

http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x144/ ligar_photo/collage.jpg

thanks for the help.

You CREATE a collage. That example is nothing more than the photos moved into a background. Here is a basic tutorial on doing that.

Combining two or more photos into a single photo is actually very simple. Imagine having actual prints of your photos and say they are 8 inches width x 10 inches height in size. Then imagine laying out a piece of paper large enough to hold each print. If you wanted to place the photos side by side, you would need a sheet of paper that would be twice as wide as your prints, so you would need a sheet 16 inches wide by 10 inches high. If you wanted to place the photos on top of each other, you would need a sheet of paper twice as high as your photos, so that would be a piece of paper 20 inches high and 8 inches wide.

You will do the same thing in the computer. In Photoshop or GIMP http://www.gimp.org you will go to FILE - NEW and enter the dimensions of your new "canvas size". You can either do this in inches or pixels or any other unit of measure. There is a drop down list beside the size boxes where you can select units of measure. Again, you will create a new canvas that is large enough to contain your photos you want to place into it. You will need to know the exact size of your photos. You can go to IMAGE - SIZE and see the dimensions of your photos and then from those numbers you will know how large to make your new canvas.

Be SURE, however, when you are creating your new canvas, that you set the resolution (PPI, pixels per inch) to the same number as your original photos, otherwise there will be a huge size difference between your new canvas and the photos you drop into it.

Then all you do is click on your photos, select the MOVE tool, (or just type the letter V on your keyboard), then drag the photos into your canvas.

You can also make the new canvas larger than your photos if you want to add borders or a different color background or text or design embellishment. Only your skill and imagination are the limiting factors as to what you can do.
