Suggest a good camera for an amateur photography?
Troy Springs State Park: Bowfin

Suggest a good camera for an amateur / freelancer venturing into professional / commercial photography such as fashion and advertising . Where in India can I buy good cameras that are reasonally priced, digital or manual. Are manual SLRs still in use in commercial photography,?
Whats an SLR and whats the difference between a digital camera and digital SLR?

Most commercial photographers (taking pictures of products) prefer using view camera. These are the cameras that you see where the photographer puts a black cloth over his head and the camera to take the picture. This is now done with a digital capture back on the camera rather than using film. Fashion photographers on the other hand use any of the professional digital cameras from either Nikon or Canon. The choice of model or brand is still pretty much personal choice and budget. As to finding a place in India to buy one I would recommend that you look up your local professional photographer and pick his brain. You will find them a great resource for helping you decide.

What is the best digital camera for amateur photography? ?
Troy Springs State Park: Algae formations

I want a digital camera for Christmas, but one that takes high quality photos, since I want to be a photographer. Anywhere under 300 dollars would be nice.

If you want to be a photographer than you should get a cheap SLR camera (non-digital) and practice taking real photographs manually. Your typical digital camera, a computer does all the work for you. And a digital SLR camera costs alot more than $300.

What would be a good amateur camera for photography? ?
Troy Springs State Park: Sucker Convoy

i'd really like to take up photography as a habit & i was wondering what a good camera would be(: links would be great(:
& nothing too too pricey?

A P&S will only give you a run at learning how to compose your images. To learn how to control the exposures of your images using a combination of shutter speed, aperture, choice of film or sensor ISO, and lens, you will need a fully adjustable camera like a 35 mm SLR. Nikon and Canon 35 mm SLR's with a standard lens costs less than $150 on craigslist.in a city near you. Then you can take a class in photography to give you a good headstart on learning and using your camera.

After you have a good grasp of photography, you will be ready to buy a DSLR.

Which camera do you advice for amateur photography?
Troy Springs State Park: Turtle Close-up

I love photography and would like an opinion on what type of Digital SLR Cameras or Film Cameras are the best for an amateur photographer? I take mostly nature and scenic photos. The price doesn't really matter. There's just such a wide range of different types and I would like some help with deciding.

I have been looking into Nikon Digital cameras, but I still don't know all of what is out there or what might be better than those.
Any ideas will help, thanks!

The fact is that any camera will be good for you to learn on. All of todays DSLR's are capable of incredible shots, ALL of them!. There is no 'best' camera. Choosing a camera for yourself is a very personal decision and can not be done by asking people on an internet site. All you will get is people shouting out the particular camera or brand that they own. All you are getting then is biased advice and that could lead to you choosing the wrong camera.

When buying a DSLR, you have to understand that the most important thing is how the camera feels like for you to hold. Not the features, not all the bells and whistles.. How it feels to hold!. When I bought my first DSLR I was unsure as to what brand to choose. I went into the store with a budget in mind, handled all of the bodies in that price range, checked the button layout, the menu options, how comfortable it felt, whether it was too large or too small etc.. I chose Canon simply because I preferred the button layout, it was as simple as that!.You may prefer Nikons bodies, or Pentax, or Olympus etc.. The only way you are going to know this is to go into a store an handle them all, not listen to people shouting out cameras here.

If film cameras are also your interest (I have a large interest in film cameras) I will be happy to give you some recommendations on the second hand market.

And when buying your camera, please remember that megapixels are not important. More megapixels do NOT equal a better image..

What is the best digital camera for a photography amateur?
Troy Springs State Park: Yield to Turtles

I am looking for a digital camera to use as a photography beginner. I'm looking for something just above your regular run-of-the-mill snapshot-type camera, but nothing in the thousands of dollars.

Any advice you can give to this photography newbie is appreciated.

Well, I'm assuming you would buy a camera under $1000. If so, I would recommend a digital SLR. If you're taking up photography as a serious hobby, you will eventually buy a DSLR later on. The digital point & shoot (P&S) cameras are good for casual photo taking (parties, occasions, etc.) and known for their simplicity and small size. But once you learn more about basic photography and the features on a DSLR, you'll be able to take far better photos that are not obtainable on a P&S camera.

With that said, if you want an affordable DSLR, there's 2 to choose from that I recommend:

Nikon D50 and Canon EOS 350D

The Nikon is more affordable at under $700, and the Canon is under $800. All depending on what you want. Just get the basic lens and a high capacity memory card, I suggest 1GB. You can still take really good pictures even if you're a beginner and don't utilize the camera to it's full capacity, because there are a few auto options. But when you're ready, you'll have the right camera to take awesome photos.

  • What type of Professionals will use Leica M9 ? - Leica User Forum

I am of the opinion that top line pros will increasingly use M9 for Wedding Photography. Historically the greatest "Artistic Photographers" such as: Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier Besson, Leni Riefenstahl, Dieter Blum Afrika Book), Diane Arbus, Robert Capa, Jonathan Eastland, Emil Schulhess (Afrika), Eisie-Alfred Eisenstadt, Andre Kertesz, Eugene Smith, Ara Guler, Robert Frank......used leica extensively although many of these people used other makes such as Hasselblad also. I believe that war correspondents have historically preferred Leica. What I do is shoot portraits and exterior-interiors for corporate reports, brochures, and advertisement. The residual IR sensitivity w/no in-camera provision to correct cyan drift when IR front filters are used, and to a lesser extent the weak high-ISO noise performance makes the M9 far less suited to providing the clients with what they want, than my Canon dslrs. Where discretion makes an SLR a bit too obtrusive, at least the M8 with filters...
