Digital Photography handbook & Good digital camera...?

I've recently been thinking of developing my photography skill. Can anyone tell me a good digital photgraphy handbook for a beginner? Just in general, nothing specified.

I'd also like to know the digital camera you think is best. Mostly it's for landscapes, like the beach and stuff.

Thank you very much in advance.
Em... someone mentioned going to the library. I appreciate that, but I'm looking for a book so I can buy it, and have a completely thorough grip on the subject. Library books won't cut it.

If you want to move into SLRs then be prepared for some serious learning and some fair spending. If you want a point and shoot that has some of the versatility of an SLR, I say wait for the release of the Olympus SP570UZ. It has a manual focus ring, it has a very versatile lens and you don't have to change lenses or worry about dust. Also invest in a tripod or atleast a monopod. I've heard about one that is a tripod, monopod, ad doubles as I hiking staff. If this is out of your price range, there are plenty of good point and shoot cameras out there and although they are good enough to learn the basic rules and skills. Which ever you choose, make sure that you are comfortable with the camera, both the controls (menus) and ergonomics. Also be sure you get a printed manual. Manuals on CD are nice but you'll never be able to read the whole thing as easily as on paper. As for a good handbook, there are many and I really don't know which to advise.

Photography, with a digital camera?

Im quite into photography, and mainly take pictures of landscapes, but with a digital camera, and only a few techniques, they come out good, but often boring.

Any ideas of interesting things to take pictures off, or how to take pictures differently?

Im only 14, so ideas like 'Coloured sweet wrappers over your lense'
all relate, and sound good to me!
Thanks x

you could try taking the photos of the landscapes still, then editing them on the computer. it can be quite fun if you really get into it.

try taking macro photos, which are photos of really small things zoomed in.

you could also try going to the beach and taking a million photos of completely random things. random pictures are often the best ones.

for some ideas, go to www.deviantart.com and browse through the photography section.

Anyone know of an affordable SLR digital camera for artistic photography?

I'm very much a beginner, and have been using a normal digital compact for a while, but thats more for just kind of holiday photos.
If possible i'd like it to have adjustable shutter speed, different exposure modes, adjustable focus, take good close ups and landscapes etc
is this possible for a very low price range? probably £200-£250,
and it defintiely needs to be digital

thanks!

I would suggest a Nikon D40 or D60

great cameras with all of the controls you listed and many, many more

Sony Ericsson Satio

Though packed with a 12.1-megapixel camera and large 3.5-inch touchscreen, the doodad, at 126g, feels lighter than most smartphones of a similar screen size.

Its digital photography prowess is augmented with regular digital camera features like scene modes, auto focus, auto flash and smile detection.

The pretty pictures it takes are comparable to those snapped by dedicated digital cameras. Although most photos appeared vibrant, images of subjects taken a distance away using digital zoom appeared pixellated.

An optical zoom lens would have made the phone too bulky, so this is something consumers would have to contend with until the liquid optical zoom lenses being researched by A*Star become widely available. These lenses take up less space.

Touch interface is built on the Symbian S60 mobile phone operating system which has a bad reputation for delayed responses to user actions.

I experienced occasional lags when switching from one application to another and when I was loading some new messages.

Canon S90 Review @ Luminous Landscape - Digital Camera Reviews ...

Very helpful review. Watch out for pre-ordering scams. I pre-ordered this camera from Amazon, but they suddenly cancelled the order 3 weeks later. Their support people had no reasonable explanation, but said that if I still want the camera I could get on another waiting list from one of their 3rd-party sellers. Perhaps they figure they can get more than MSRP when the S90 becomes available (like the Panasonic LX3), or maybe Prime shipping is costing them too much. Either way, I’m really disappointed.

Agree / Disagree? from it? Not even some comic relief?

Seriously, we feature Ken’s reviews because he is such a contrast to other [very | too?] “serious” reviews. He likes to stir the pot and it’s sometimes good to question our own cherished notions about what a “good” camera should be.
