Ordered, then got a call that said I might want to pay another $50 or so and get the English version of the camera instead of the Japanese....what is That all about!
Broadway Photo's known for bait-and-switch tactics and scams - they're the subject of constant complaints from customers. It'll be best to call them up, cancel your order, refuse to pay any fees they try to pin on you, and if they press you, mention the New York Department of Consumer Affairs, and threaten to dispute the charges through your credit card company.
After that, never do business with them again, and tell everyone you know about what dirtbags they are.

Many of us trust and recommend B&H Photo. I have been using them for many years without a single problem. B&H Photo is available through a link at Yahoo! Shopping, www.bhphoto.com or at 1-800-622-4987. See also http://www.resellerratings.com/store/B_H _Photo_Video_Pro_Audio

I'm going to buy a new camera, the Canon SD700. I've decided to buy it from Broadway Photo. I've noticed that this camera goes as low as $250 in some places and as high as $600+ in others, why is that so? Can anyone tell me if Broadway Photo is reputable (it apparantly seems so by the reviews.) I'd like a warrenty -can I get one from there? I had considered going through Amazon but I read their warrenty isn't so hot - and they're charging over $300 for the camera I want.
Pricing is always variable. A large vendor can buy 1,000 units for a lot less than Mom'n'Pop Shop can pay for 3 units. Obviously, this will have a direct impact on price.
I checked the SD700 on pricegrabber.com (I am sure you cold do the same on other comparison sites.) and found a range of $299 to $419, with about 60% falling in the $320-340 range. This makes me think that the $250 price is not really legitimate. Is it s NEW, never opened camera or is it a "factory demo?" Does it include the entire manufacturer's package with batteries, software and cables, etc? Does it include the 1-year waranty that comes from Canon for a US-certified camera or is it an import without a warranty? These are all things to consider. I use B&H Photo as my benchmark for what to expect in a sale. They have this camera for $325. Their shipping is under $10 for UPS 3-day. I have seen some ridiculously low prices associated with amazingly high shipping costs, so what's the difference? A $250 price with $85 shipping charges makes it a $325 camera plus $10 shipping.
You WANT a US camera with a Canon USA warranty. You can add a 5-year Mack warranty to most purchases and this is not a bad thing if you want that extended coverage. I would be very careful about a warranty from a seller that they are backing themsevles. "Don't worry. We'll fix it for you."
There are on-line ratings for various vendors.
Check this out:
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Bro adway_Photo You will see that Broadway Photo scored 0.8 out of 10.
Check this out:
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/B_H _Photo_Video_Pro_Audio You will see that B&H scored 9.58 out of 10.
I am sure that others do just as well, but you can see why I feel safe with B&H.

I purchased what I thought was the New Canon EOS XSI as advertised. bwayphoto.com as advertised in a national photography magazine sent me a "kiss" Canon. What I found out that this is a grey market camera and not what was advertised. I called three times broadway photo in New York and was told "you bought the same thing" No the camera does not look like the photo in the advertisment.
Any suggestions on what I can do to get my money back and/or the Canon EOS XSI that I thought I was ordering?
Any offices in New York that investigate this online stuff? Any numbers to write the photography magazine that allows them to adverties.
Thanks for any advise.
P.S. Today Broadway Photo called me about my email to them requesting a rep explain to me why they are selling Grey Market cameras.
Always check www.resellerratings.com. You will find they have a dismal rating, although not quite as bad as a few other scam companies. You might file a complaint with your credit card company. Next time use B&H Photo, Calumet or Adorama.
I've tried to buy Canon products from Photonation, Broadway photo, and Bestpricecameras.com. These companies advertise low prices then after you place the order they send you an order confirmation asking you to call them to "verify" your order. They then proceed to sell you warranties or sell you accessories that you don't want or need. Their final ploy is to tell you that the product you are buying is not a US model and that it is cheap because it is a foreign model with no warranty. Despite the information at their site saying they ship in 1 to 3 days they then tell you that the product will be shipped in 4 to 6 weeks!
Photonattion told me that a camera I ordered has a magnesium body instead of whwtever Canon normally uses. My take is Canon does not make inferior products to sell overseas. If the product is inferior it has to be illegal and these companies should be prosecuted for selling bogus products.
Bestpricecameras told me a lens I was ordering used plastic instead of glass
Be very careful when buying electronics online. Before going with any company make sure you look them up on resellerratings.com. This way you can see others feedback about the company and problems they have had (just like you described above). Sometimes this can be way different from the ratings they recieve on ebay, I hear this is because they threaten to leave negative feedback for you if you do not withdraw your negative feedback for them and bully people into changing their answers or promise to send them free items that they dont send.
After much research I orderd a Canon and accessories from Cameta Camera, they had pretty good prices and an excellent reputation. I recieved my items within a week exactly as ordered and it was all US products. The peace of mind was important to me. If you go to their site check out their ebay store and they have great camera packages.
