Camera Digital Dummy Photography Slr

About a year ago I purchased a Nikon d40, and I have really enjoyed taking pictures with it, family functions, nature etc etc.

Now I find myself wanting to delve deeper into the digital photography world and hone some mad skills. Suggestions? I've already bought a few books, which I haven't finished (Nikon d40 for Dummies and Digital Photography the Missing Manual(Which is a bit rubbish)

Advice from Photographers on where to go from here?

First, learn how to control the manual settings on your camera (looks like you've already started that).

Next, work on composition and lighting. Practice using natural daylight, indoor light, etc. Go to the places you love most and just start taking pictures. Take as many as you can. Shoot at different levels, angles, etc.

What good is mini-CD camera transfer software if its just going to pop out of the camera case and become lost? Dummy cord it, Dummy! In this video ...

My Camera has never given me trouble before, but a few days ago i tried to take a simple picture and as soon as it flashed, on the screen came a little pop-up that said "Camera error" ive tried just about everything to try and get it to take a picture without that coming on to the screen. Ive tried putting it on different settings, taken pictures in multiple rooms, and in different times of day. Nothing seems to get it to work. All the pictures come out black, and i have to turn on and off the camera to get the error message off the screen. Im terrified something might be wrong with the camera, that things my life... and its worth more than i am =S Ive tried looking through the manuel, and "Digital SLR cameras & photography for dummies" hopefully im just being stupid and am doing something wrong... please feel free to be overly blunt and rude with me... im absolutely terrified...

Look through the manual for the way to reset the camera. If that doesn't work, try taking the lens off and see if the contacts are clean. The lens and camera 'communicate' with a series of contacts on the lens. If the contacts are dirty, clean them with a 'Q' tip moistened lightly with rubbing alcohol. Hope this helps. Marvin
