Good camera for fashion photography?

Anyone know of a good camera for fashion photography?

I was thinking of getting the D80, but im not sure, any suggestions?

& also, what kind of lens are good?

Does it have to be Nikon ??

......depends on your budget and how seriously you are getting into fashion photography.

Personaly I would go with the Canon eos 5D with the battery grip.
......full frame sensor, very good low light tonal response, high res.(can easily do a A3 print at 300dpi), quite a few coming onto the market secondhand now at as little as £900($1800)

If your budget can stretch further ....maybe a used Canon 1Ds mkII ?
......full frame sensor, 16.7 megapixel for BIG enlargements, rugged, weatherproofed. About £2000($4000) body only used. Last year was £4500($9000) new.

If it HAS to be Nikon then maybe the D3 if you are serious although it is brand new so no used examples.

Lenses? .....Don't go for cheap lenses. If you camera is capable of hi res. then getting a cheap lens for it means you've wasted your money.
Generaly anything from 50 -300mm. A 200 will blur out the background nicely.
Ideal situation; one body with something like a 24 -70 f2.8 fast zoom and the other with say, a 70 - 200 f2.8 fast tele zoom.
With budget considerations if it had to be one lens then it would be either the fastest 50 -135mm or fastest 70 - 200mm lens you can afford.

That's just my opinion

What digital camera is best for fashion photography?

What digital camera is best for fashion photography?
i dont got the money to buy expensive SLR Camera like nikon. any suggested digital camera i should buy for my fashion photoshoot?

If you don't have the money for the camera you need to shoot fashion or any other professional photography, you may want to either buy a good 35 mm Nikon SLR with standard zoom lens and start shooting with it or just wait until you can afford the tools you need.

35 mm SLR's are nearly the same in operation as a DSLR and can perform all the tasks that the new DSLR's do today. After all, for the past 40 years or so, we did not have digital cameras and shot fashion and other advertising assignments quite well.

You can buy a good Nikon 35 mm SLR with lens for under $200 on craigslist ... usually less.

Forget using a P&S camera for any photography that requires split second shooting ... P&S cameras have what is called shutter lag and it is measured in seconds, from about 0.5 seconds to over three when a flash is involved. SLR and DSLR cameras measure what little lag they have in milliseconds.

It sounds like you have a fashion shoot planned, but you have no equipment and by your question, no experience either.

You may want to cool your jets and at least take a class or two in photography first and learn how to use a camera and what techniques are required to expose, compose and light fashion.

The big boys that shoot fashion use cameras that start at $10,000 and top out at around $40,000 because they already have the lenses they need from the film bodies they have been using for the past ten to fifteen years.

Read this and then breathe a little before you start spending money and planning photo shoots

Disposal cameras do not make for very good pro cameras.

I would guess you would need a minimum of a FF dSLR or a medium format dSLR if you plan to have anything published.

It is not impossible to do fashion photography with your camera if you have exceptional lighting but it isn't likely. The girls would certainly laugh and most publishers will not be amused.

what is the best camera for fashion photography?

I would concur that a medium format camera system is ideal for most fashion photography whether you are using a film back or a digital back. In terms of medium format digital photography, most sensors range in size from 16-39 megapixels, and though the lower figures may be in par with professional digital SLR's from Nikon or Canon, the actual size of the sensors that medium format cameras utilize are larger sensor than 24x36mm which results in better images i.e, better color reproduction, less issues with noise etc...
Similar can be said about the size of film that a medium format camera utilizes. Compared to 35mm you are dealing with a much larger negative anywhere from 2 to 4 times the size.
As for the price, a used medium format camera whether you are talking about a Hasselblad 500 series or a Mamiya Rb series, are not all that expensive if you were to compare them to say a professional as well as pro-consumer digital slr's. If you wish to digitally manipulate the images a cheap scanner will do the job so all you have to do is pay the development of the negatives or positives and usually this is not expensive, especially if you develop yourself which is actually pretty easy.
Below is a link to some fashion photographers who rely upon a medium format camera system.

A point and shoot (P&S) is not suitable for fashion photography. What you need is a DSLR with interchangeable lenses, such as an Olympus Evolt 510 with built-in image stabilization and active action LCD viewfinder. It sells for around $675 [samys.com] and is highly rated by Consumer reports over the Canon Rebel and Nikon D40 series.
