What is a good digital camera for outdoor"nature" and portrait photography?

My wife and I are looking for a nice digital camera. She would like it for taking routine pictures(vacation, birthdays, etc...). I love outdoor photography, I also would like it for taking family pictures. I have a Nikon N70 and have been very happy with it but would like to go digital. Any help would be appreciated.

You didn't state a budget.
If you have some Nikon glass, take a look at the Nikon D50, D70s, or the new one, D80. Or the D200 but that is a step up in the pocketbook.
Any of these will serve you in whatever capacity you desire.
Don't forget to budget for memory cards, maybe a flash unit, and an image working software program of some kind. (Adobe Photoshop CS , Paintshop Pro, and Photoshop Elements are some of the most popular.)
You will find your wide angle lens is not as wide on a smaller sensor dslr, so you also might want either the kit lens or an ultra wide angle of some sort.
Good luck!

What is the best camera for indoor and outdoor photography?

I've recently discovered, I really like photography.
I've been using my cellphone for pictures though.
I'd really like a GOOD camera, one that will work for indoor and outdoor, and a cheap one too.
If you know any good camera's that will work, please tell me. :]
And if you can, get a link to the camera.

P.s. This is some of my photography.

All cameras are designed to take photos indoors and out.

P&S do not require the user to be in control of the exposures of your images.

DSLR's are fully adjustable cameras and allow the most flexibility and use interchangeable lenses from fisheye to extreme telephoto lenses.

DSLR's have sensors that are over 15 times larger than P&S cameras so the quality will be much better, especially at high ISO's needed for blur free shots using available light.

Sony DSC S60 is value for money should cost you approx.190$
FEATURES
6.0 Megapixel Super HAD™ CCD
More megapixels mean more detail and definition in digital photos. Sony’s advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.
Carl Zeiss® Wide-Angle Lens
The DSC-S600 has a new Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar® lens design with great wide-angle shooting capabilities, making it easier to take indoor photos and capture group shots without leaving people out of the picture.
3X Optical/2X Digital Zoom
3X Optical Zoom helps the DSC-S600 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots for better composition; Sony’s precision 2X Digital Zoom provides an additional 2X magnification to zoom in close without jagged edges.
High Sensitivity
The DSC-S600 offers a high-sensitivity shooting mode (ISO 1000) for brighter pictures in low light, to help capture the mood and also shoot in locations where flash is prohibited.
Strong Flash
With strong flash and high sensitivity, you can light up subjects more effectively up to a distance of 33 feet -- much farther than any previous Sony camera. That’s a real advantage for portraits, group shots and candid photos of children or pets -- because you don’t have to stand so close to your subject.
Stamina™ Battery Performance
With standard AA alkaline batteries, the DSC-S600 can capture up to 160 shots -- and when you use optional Sony NiMH rechargeable batteries (NH-AA-20B), you can capture up to an amazing 460 shots. That’s enough shooting capacity for an entire vacation.
Capture Images In-Camera
With 32 MB2 Internal Memory, the DSC-S600 allows you to shoot without using a memory card -- then easily transfer your images to Memory Stick® DUO media, upload photos to your computer or make prints on your digital printer.
Large 2.0” LCD Screen
In addition to its optical viewfinder, the DSC-S600 gives you a big, bright screen for composing images, checking results and sharing your photos on location.
Cyber-shot Viewer Software
Sony’s new software that makes it easy to import images via camera or Memory Stick® media -- then organize and browse through photos on your PC with simple scrolling through thumbnail images.
MPEG Movie VX Fine Mode
The DSC-S600 can capture VGA (640 x 480) audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with length limited only by the capacity of your media.
Real Imaging Processor™ LSI
To capture the moment before it gets away, the DSC-S600 has Sony’s Real Imaging Processor LSI (Large Scale Integrated) circuit that improves camera response time, decreases shutter lag, improves picture quality and clarity, and increase battery stamina.
13X Smart Zoom™ Feature
At VGA resolution, Sony’s Smart Zoom feature lets you magnify your subject by intelligently cropping into the central portion of interest in your photo without sacrificing full CCD resolution -- avoiding the jagged-edge image distortion of other digital zooms.
Memory Stick® Media Convenience
The DSC-S600 has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick® DUO or higher capacity Memory Stick DUO PRO™ media that expands your shooting capacity up to 2 GB.

What settings for Canon Digital SLR 300D camera for Sport Photography especially outdoor football games in day

I would like suggestions on what are the best settings for my camera (as above) for doing sport photography especially football photography in the daytime from the sideline of the field. My zoom lens is 75-300mm 1:4-5.6
Please help with what ever you can?

Use a shutter speed of at least 1/500th second.

I am surprised that you have such a fine, adjustable camera and haven't figured this basic kind of thing out ... That tells me you need to take a class in photography so you do not get too frustrated using a camera like this.

The camera is only a tool ... if you have to spend any time thinking about the settings, you are going to miss a lot of shots. The goal is to learn all you can by going to school, using the camera as much as possible in as many different lighting conditions as possible.

If you have noticed, the pros on the sidelines are shooting, not checking there camera settings.

We're going out to live on Vancouver Island. What is the best camera and film for outdoor photography?

One that is water proof, or at least comes with a water-proof housing.

Aside from that, find something within your budget, that fits your hand, controls feel comfortable, etc...,

You'll want a macro lens, for those closeups of flowers etc..., wide angle for those landscapes, a really good zoom to get them whales bobbing around, and possibly even a flash that will talk with your camera.

Best place to start is at a real world store, with a knowledgeable photographer, and get some hands on with camera bodys, lenses, etc..., and than do some internet searching, try www.dpreview.com, and go over some user reviews.

Canon and Nikon are kind of considered top of the line in consumer cameras, but Leica and a few others offer quality units too. These things should give you a good shot at figuring out whats best for you.

There is an option to change the "picture style" to portrait, try that. Also keep in mind the time of day and amount of sunlight (if it's cloudy/etc) will effect your 50Ds ability to capture the correct white balance. Also, if all else fails, take a perfectly white sheet of paper with you, put it in the same area you are shooting photos and use it to set custom white balance, consult your user guide for more info on how to do this.
