on my digital camera (sony cybershot DSC-W80) i can choose from several image quality choices. which one should i choose?
7M - i can take up to 310 pics.
3:2 - i can take up to 310 pics.
5M - i can take up to 387 pics.
3M - can take up to 621 pics.
VGA - i can take up to 5970 pics.
16:9 - i can take up to 995 pics.
(btw its a 1 gb card in case that matters)
i had it set to VGA because it can store the most pictures but i printed a picture recently on the digital camera picture printer thing and it was a little grainy.
which would be the best choice? i dont need SUPER good high quality pictures but i dont want them grainy.
For higher quality shots select the 5mp or 7mp setting. Those will produce good quality prints, even at larger sizes. The 3mp could work if you only plan to print smaller pics. The 3:2 and 16:9 are aspect ratios, the camera shoots in 4:3 natively. The 3:2 will correspond perfectly to 4X6 prints and is slightly smaller in dimensions than the normal 7mp images. the 16:9 is for viewing on a widescreen HD-TV and is a 2mp image. When shown on the TV the images will appear crisp and clear.
The battery for your camera is good for about 348 pictures on a single charge, selecting the 5mp or one of the 7 mp settings would give you great looking images and not be too taxing on the battery.
VGA images are really small and don't print well. That's the one setting you should avoid. You also shouldn't keep all of your pictures on that card. If something happens, and it often does, you will lose everything at one time. Just take a look at all the people asking how to recover their lost images.
Choosing quality settings on your digital camera affects your photographs. Compressed photographs are lower quality but have smaller file sizes ...
My mother gave me a sony digital camera 4.1 mega pixels cyber shot..because she simply didnt know how to use it and wen tout and got herself another one..she didnt have the handbook anymore so thats not help..and i dont understand how to work it to change the picture and what not..
every time i take a picture it comes out blurry..and when i do take a picture.. i wanna take snap shots of my son..and it taken like 10 seconds before it snaps the photo.. and i miss what i want taken..and its like a triple flash..
and i dont know how to get the flash off at all..its not written in the menu.. its more like symbols..
if any body has any idea where i can get the instructions off the internet.. or can simply tell me what to do it would be great..

and if you dont think i tried google??
If you will give us the model of your sony we may be able to find you a link for your own manual. 4.1MP sensors were on many digital cameras.
The triple flashes is the redeye reduction process working.
To get the highest quality, set the camera to shoot at its highest resolution and size. You will find this in your camera's menu
In low light at a slow shutter speed will blur if you have any movement at all when you take the shot.
The time between when you press the shutter release, is called shutter lag ...something P&S camera uses have been fighting for years.

I am going to get a digital camera for my birthday and my parents want to know which one to get me and how much it cost and all. I love the color blue and black for a camera, and they said that anything less then $250 is fine; name your favorite/best quality camera and could you give me a link to see what the camera looks like, along with the price and where to buy it?
Thanks

I like the look of pictures taken on an SLR camera. How can I setup my digital camera to replicate that look as close as possible. My pictures always look overexposed.
What options should I look at? Any recommendations what settings should be at.
Thanks in advance.
It is a Canon PowerShot A550
Just buy a DSLR that uses the same lenses as you SLR and use the exact same techniques you have been using with your SLR
Simple
P&S cameras like the A550, makes all the exposures for you, so you are out of luck. If you consider the fact that the sensor on your A550 is over 39 times smaller than your 35 mm frame, you can see that you will never get the same quality your 35 mm SLR gives you with that camera
