i just enrolled in penn foster for photography and one of the requirements is that you have a 35mm camera. i know quite a bit about regular point and shoot digital cameras because my husband works at the photo center in walmart but i dont know anything about professional cameras. What is better...digital or film and what brand and style should i get? our spending limit is $200. i am looking for something that will give great quality pictures with the least amount of hassle possible, so i was thinking digital but if a film camera gives better quality pictures then...??? i am going to be doing wedding party pictures, special occasion pictures, etc. any suggestions??? please help!
it has to be 35 mm adjustable lens i believe. im looking for a professional camera, not just an ordinary point and shoot digital camera.
Having taught photography before, I would think that they want a 35mm single lens reflex camera and you really don't have to get close to $200 to get one.
There is always Ebay and Craig's list, but you can't be really sure of what you are getting until you get it with those sources. I would suggest that you goto www.keh.com, find their telephone number, and call them in Atlanta. They are the largest reseller of used cameras in the US.
What your teacher is probably looking for is a basic manual camera, one with the least number of features, so that they can teach you the real basics of photography. One of the most common is the Pentax K1000, but there are a zillion different brands out there just as good as that one. Look for Canon, Olympus, other Pentax models that are basically manual, and just simply get the best deal. You should be able to get the camera and a 50mm lens, the most common lens, for about $160-$175 and if you get it from KEH, you can be assured of getting one that is totally functional with a guarantee. I buy about 75% of my cameras, lenses, etc. from then and have never been disappointed.

Hey there...
thanks for checking out my blogsite (a blog + a website combined into one. makes my life much simpler). i'm a child and family photographer based out of fulton, maryland and i serve the baltimore and dc metro areas. my style is bold and loud ~ i love to capture kids making faces and families laughing with (and at) each other. my clients like to shoot in odd locations and love the adventure of seeing what we come up with together.
i've been a photographer since i took my first class back in 7th grade ~ back when cameras used film and prints were developed in a darkroom. i continued to take classes throughout high school and college and finally embraced the digital revolution in 2005. i don't miss the smell of the chemicals or the frustration of loading a roll of undeveloped film into a canister in pitch darkness.
my sessions are high energy and have been known to include all manner of yelling, jumping, burping and telling knock knock jokes.
