i really like that old fashioned style photo- you know like the black and white grainy ones. Is there any sort of camera i can buy that will give me that effect? Are there any types you can buy that have that sort of old fashioned photo booth effect?
Also my mums just brought a canon EOS 400D camera. what are the different sorts of lenses you can get and what are the effects they can create?
sorry i know there 2 completely different questions, i was just interested in knowing whether you can get a lens that creates those old fashioned style photos
Well you can simulate that grain effect in files from any digital camera. Or you can get a film camera. All you need is to shoot with a high speed film which will give you that grain.
Lenses don't create those kinds of effects. You can add the texture in a photo editing software.
So, you can use your moms 400D and then apply a grain texture to your files.

You know how your photo is edited to look like it's in the camera lense bubble? What is a website that has that?
Are you talking about a fisheye effect? In order to get that you either need a fisheye lens on your camera or create the effect in Photoshop. I don't know of any websites that will do it for you. Maybe Photoshop Express will: https://www.photoshop.com/?promoid=CBTVJ

Traditional Gauss-type optical design is extremely sharp
At the moment I am concerned with mainly indoor shoots of family and friends and some outdoor shots will be acheived during the learning/portfolio building sessions.
The longer focal length avoids making the subject's face distorted. A short focal length makes the nose bigger relative to the face which is not appreciated.
100mm is considered about the minimum to use.

I was thinking about getting into photography so I was just wondering what would be a good camera and lens to get. I don't need it to be proffesional grade but I do want the pictures to have good quality. Not to spendy but still a good grade camera and lens.
I want the camera to be digital.
here I left a links
