I have a Canon SD 1000, I work with photo ID's for a living. What camera settings will work best?
Black-crowned Night-heron

Camera: Canon SD 1000
Because of my job I have to take pictures of photo ID's (Drivers licenses, State ID cards, school ID cards etc.) to keep on file. Does anyone know what settings will be best on this camera. 9 times out of 10 the pictures are taken indoors.

as your are copying a flat surface a small apeture can be used, so F4 or so and turn the flash off

edit in your experience/knowledge and i will come back and give more info if you like?

easy way is set up a tripod, stick the objct to the wall, double sided tape will do it, once you do it once perfect note the settings and repeat them as needed

Is there a way to use the camera on my HP DV6 to use a photo id to log in, instead of a password?

When i was searching for a new computer i saw this feature on some laptops. When you open the lid the webcam activates and will photo id you essentially. Is this something that is available on DV6-1030US? If so, how do i use it?

It is not true that all digital camera can take photo ID. please response model and make of one that can?

It is true that all of them can. You have to know the requirements for each specific ID that you are planning to use. You have to do some cropping and/or resizing work in Photoshop or a similar program.

What camera will take shots like this? http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1375596415&size=l?

Yes I know the camera has NOTHING to do with great image making!

So what cam could be used to make that shot?

Shot "on" iso100, not "at" iso100:

So whats the shutter speed?

Whats the apepture?

Do you like it?
Thanks Jez, not a rebel....ah the camera costs about 20% the cost of a rebel
ok Dr and Terisu you are getting there, apepture yes your close, shutter speed your not close

Yes Dr the tilt/perpective is suspect, but i always try for difference, personally i cant stand "straight" images

Evan I missed you too......

You have nailed it buddy, will see what else pops up eh
Skin your answer might impress someone, ah but at 1/30th the image would just be black.....

didnt you notice the others are answering many seconds and you are answering 1/30th? your between 6-10 stops off!!

wont give the exact number yet, cause that will spoil it for those that know what they are talking about

Curses, no EXIF! ;)

Good to see you back Antoni: hadn't seen you in a while.

The shutter is pretty slow: maybe into multi-second

The aperture is reasonably small: probably f/8 or smaller.

Its tough to tell from the low-res file.

Its a nice shot. Love the starburst highlights from the streetlights.

  • Fonts in the Wild

Font designer Paul Veres tells me he was excited recently to see his Aperto font used in the logo of Aveeno, a natural cosmetics company.

But you don't have to be a font designer to enjoy identifying fonts in public places--in the wild, so to speak. If you can take a photo of a type sample, you can upload it to the free WhatTheFont feature at MyFonts for identification. It really works!

If you have an iPhone, identifying fonts is even easier. Just download the free WhatTheFont app that lets you snap a photo of some text (from directly within the app) and upload it for identification. The chosen font can then be explored in Safari on your iPhone, or the app can e-mail a URL to you for further research. It also works with photos already saved in your iPhoto library or iPhone Camera Roll, in case you want to "snap now and process later".

Below are a few examples of fonts in the wild proudly identified by their designers.

Canon EOS 7D the Review… Nice Camera but Could have been a bit ...

2 Weeks have passed since I finished reviewing the Canon EOS 7D, the most affordable powerful and complete Canon DLSR on the market, or at least on the paper. Yeah, I had high expectations from the 7D. I first wished this DSLR had been a cheaper 5D MK II by offering us all another Full Frame body, then the news arrived that the 7D was only a APS-C Camera… I dreamed of having a powerful Video mode with support of different frame rates and full control on the video mode, yep, the 7D on the paper lets you do that but at the end… The 7D falls short on many aspects that made me want to own a 7D. Another nice addition, will be the special care that Canon binged to the 7D when it comes to protect your investment by making the Camera even more resistant to humidity and water than its high end 5D MK II for example. However, don’t dream, this does not mean you will be able to shoot underwater, but rather than you will now be capable to shoot under heavy humid condition without risking to damage...
