I am really into photography and will be taking a beginners digital photography class. I would like to find a digital camera that allows me to leave the shutter open (so I can get the cool star paths and wispy water). Any camera suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
Thank you for your responses! I will look into some of these cameras. I'm so excited to start!
You'll want a camera capable of a bulb setting.
An entry level camera from Nikon(D40/D40x/D60), Canon XT/XTi/XSi), Pentax (K100D/K100D Super), or Sony(A100/A200) should be just fine to begin with. Once you get more experience, you can upgrade to better lenses than the kit lenses that come with them.
You just bought your first digital camera and don't know the ins and outs of all those buttons. If that isn't daunting enough, the user ...
I plan on taking a photography class this fall and i have a kodak easyshare camera. Its obviously meant for simple, everyday pictures, I cant afford a dslr camera now so anyone here taken a photography class? Do they have cameras you can borrow or you have to have your own?
35 mm film
I need to get a 35-mm camera for my photography class. It has to have f-stop and shutter controls. What is the cheapest camera I could get?
A few venerable old choices are the Pentax K-1000 and the Canon AE-1. I have both of them, and the K-1000 may be have the shallowest learning curve, as you just need to make sure the needle is right in the middle of the light meter. While I do like the focusing aid in the AE-1 using a split prism instead of the normal ground glass. Both of those cameras are tanks, and will likely do you well.
Both of those are good cameras, but bear in mind, they are mostly bare bones - manual focus and the sort. The AE-1 has some Shutter Speed Priority features, but aside from that, it's manual everything. Manual wind, manual rewind, manual focus. I think you'll be happy with either of them.
Price: $849.00
ISO 100 - 6400 for shooting from bright to dim light
Video Snapshot features for enhanced video shooting options
18.0 MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 Image Processor for high image quality and speed
im going to a new school next year and im in the photography class and they said a need a manual focus camera?
if it helps im gonna be in 9th grade.
suggestions on what camera i should buy??
canon a590
I'm going to take a photography class in school and im also planning on continuing to use it often if I do get one. Does anyone know if its better to get a digital SLR or a film. also does anyone have a suggestion for both types as well?
Check the class syllabus to find out whether you'll need film or digital. Personally, I'll never go back to film after making the digital transition. Also, it'll probably be best if you purchase an SLR-type camera. A good entry level digital SLR is the Canon Digital Rebel Xsi.

Like Rhysis Dream suggested, I’d say go with Nikon if you’re looking to build an SLR outfit. I have both Nikon digital and 35mm camera bodies and find them to be excellent.
I guess the question you need to ask yourself is what role do you want the camera to fulfill? If you’re going to spend a lot of time in the studio with a tripod you could look at getting a secondhand medium format (film) camera. As a lot of the pro users have moved over to digital they are available relatively cheaply now. If on the other hand you’re going to be out and about photographing landscapes, people, buildings, sporting events etc then a DSLR will definitely be the way forward.
