I've been shooting with a Holga but I think I am ready for a big-kid camera now. I mostly do street photography but I also have been getting really into night photography recently. Is there an affordable medium format camera out there that can handle both and isn't a piece of crap? Since my current camera is 95% plastic, pretty much anything would be a step up. Please advise, thanks :)
I was thinking perhaps an old TLR? I don't really feel like I have the capabilities to use a bunch of different lenses yet, so a fixed-lens would be fine... I am still a beginner
well I am already hauling around this monster Konica rangefinder too so size isn't a big issue. it's easier to print medium format in the darkroom so i prefer it... i really like the idea of taking surreptitious shots with a tlr, the more i think of it. i hate when people pose!! thanks for all the suggestions!
Holy crap, a Mamiya 7?!?!?! I said affordable and I'm no heiress!!!!
I have a TLR and I love it and it is one of the cheaper ones a seagull, but you have to remember that they do not in general have meters so you will have to get a hand held light meter.
If you have to have an internal meter look at the fuji line.. they make some that are like a point and shoot but it has manual over rides and everything, just not a changeable lense. They are not so cheap although I was looking at them on ebay this past week and they have fallen a lot in price.

Video Photo Tip ~ Little Plastic Camera Accessories can make a valuable impact on your photography
I would like it to have these features and I am looking to purchase it online:
-manual mode
-focus
-good lens that comes with camera (so I won't have to purchase another)
-film camera
-an overall good camera with good features for photography
-not plastic
&& affordable
it doesn't have to be a film, it can be digital
What you are talking about are SLR cameras.
You might want to reconsider a few of your needs.
Most Film SLRs have a plastic body. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not sturdy.
When you're looking for Film SLRs you might have some trouble. Film photography only takes up 5% of the photography business today. Most companies have stopped producing Film SLRs and moved on to Digital SLRs (DSLR)
But you should definitely consider Canon models.
The latest SLR models are:
-Entry Level: Canon EOS Rebel K2
-Consumer: Canon EOS Rebel T2
-Advanced: Canon EOS Elan 7NE
-Prosumer: Canon EOS 3
-Professional: Canon EOS 1V
Try searching Amazon, eBay, Google for decent deals.
Price: $200.00
50mm standard lens with f/1.8 maximum aperture
Traditional Gauss-type optical design is extremely sharp
Focuses as close as 18 inches for extreme close-ups
HI. I am purchasing this as a set with two lenses, the camera body, a tripod and other accesories. The seller is wanting me to upgrade from plastic manual focus lenses to glass auto focus lenses. It would be an additional $200 - 300 dollars to upgrade. I am purchasing this camera for my small photography buisness. Is it important to have the glass lenses and auto focus or is he just trying to upsell me.
Thanks in advance!
Thank you everyone for your commets!
I had gone through a company named fotoconnection.com and I agree after researching about them they are just trying to scam me and rip me off. I appreciate everyone from helping me make a horrible mistake and loose fifteen hundred dollars. Thank you!
DO NOT BUY FROM FOTOCONNECTION.COM!
Sounds like you're being scammed by one of the many "call to confirm" sellers. There's no such thing as a plastic lens for your D200 and yes, the camera comes with strap, full-sized rechargeable battery, charger, cords, etc.
Cancel the order ASAP, as this has all the signs of one of the many Brooklyn-based "too good to be true price" scammers. The D200 NEVER comes with a manual focus lens nor does it come with a plastic lens. By the way, the Sigma lenses they may try to pawn off on you are NOT better than Nikon optics.
Do this. Put your seller's name in the "store ratings" window. Be prepared to read some horror stories.

Stick with the reputable sellers like B&Hphotovideo, Adorama, Ritz, and such. They have great reputations and won't upsell you to things you don't need.
Sorry to break the bad news to you, but I hate it when the bad guys win.
Since buying a fisheye no.2, I've been a fan of film photography. I want a plastic point-and-shoot like my fisheye, without the wide-angle effect. The LC-A+ seems like a good choice, but I don't think I could live with myself for spending $200+ on a cheap plastic camera.
Is there a good toy camera that functions like the LC-A+ without the LOMO price tag?
I'd like one that uses 35mm film and has multiple exposure options... thanks! :]

In Photography, It's the Archer, Not the Arrow | Black Star Rising ...
I’m a big fan of technology, and it’s easy to get swept up in the shiny new toys that the big camera companies roll out every year. I love the fact that I can now record video as well as stills from the same camera bodies, for example, and that the low light sensitivity of those bodies can produce amazing results without the digital noise we once had to work around.
But a few weeks ago, I read a quote that I thought applied well to photography: “It’s the archer, not the arrow.” I took that quote to heart, and decided to take a step back from my arrows and focus on the archery itself.
Shooting with a Holga
Here’s what I did: I got a cheap, plastic Holga camera and two rolls of film and conducted a fashion shoot on the rooftop of my studio.

From the moment I started photographing my model with 120 film, I felt a sense of excitement, and a bit of pressure. With each roll of film, I only had 12 shots, 12 chances to make it work, 12 frames to fill — without the ability to see through the lens.
