Wow, that's like asking, "which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

I don't care what people say or how they argue, there is no better professional grade camera. It's all a matter of personal preference.

The only time you get into a better quality is when you are getting into pricing. A $200 point and click digital camera is not the same as a $5,000 professional grade digital camera. But again, the camera isn't what makes the photographs, the photographer does. The camera just records what the photographer wants it to.

For example, I use the FujiFilm S2 Pro and the FujiFilm S3 Pro. I'll continue to use those over Canon or Nikon. Does it mean that FujiFilm is better than Canon or Nikon? No, it's just that I've always used the Fuji S series (S1... S2... S3) and I like it. I know the body inside and out and can easily change to any setting without taking the camera away from my eye and trying to figure out where the aperature control is.

Now, some people will prefer Nikon or Canon because of their status in the photography world. Each one has been around forever and has always produced superior products. Some will argue that one out performs the other or that one produces better images... that's a load of crap. If that was truly the case, one would be used by 90% of the professional photographers out ther as compared to the other one. As it is, Fuji... Canon... Nikon all take on an equal share of use in the professional industry.

Some of the more popular Digital SLR cameras are the Canon EOS-1DS Mark II (due to it's large ccd), the Canon EOS-1DS, the canon EOS 20D, the Nikon D2Xs, the Nikon D2X, the Nikon D1H, the Fujifilm S2 Pro, the FujiFilm S3 Pro and the Kodak DCS 14 Series.

It's all a matter of personal preference. The link below (provided by bhphoto.com) compares a handful of professional grade digital cameras from a wide variety of manufacturers. Check it out as it will give you a nice (though a couple years out of date) breakdown.

Greetings, My Daughter wants a professional type camera She's (((((( REALLY )))))))) into pictures. Currently she owns an old fugi digital camera she puts XD chips inside & takes pic's with. While at Hot August Night's in Reno she was lucky enough to get 450 pic's of the car's in the car show, but said would have got more "if" she had a more professional type camera. Any suggestion as to which camera she'd need to do her professional photo-ing?

Digital SLR the more mega pix the better. I recommend either a sony, Nicon, or Cannon. Also these come with detachable lenses. You might want to ask her about what she wants for a lens, since that really depends on what you are shooting.

What is the best photo quality camera? (not the professional kind)?
[hello world] 13/365

We used to have a sony cybershot 5 megapixel and it took great pictures. Now we got the new olympus tough 6000 10 megapixels and it takes terrible quality pics, then we got a new canon that is 10 megapixels and it is also low quality.
We can pay up to 300 dollars but we want sharp good pics without dusty looking ones. Plz help because we're going nuts.

weird you had 2 bad experience, especially with a Canon. Maybe a question of settings ? did you compare 2 pictures taken from the same point at the same hours, to compare the same subject with the same light condition ?
Maybe you should post a sample of each picture, and this way someone could review the pictures and detect what is the problem

I want to start taking some professional photos for my own purposes, and need a professional camera.?
JAPANESE BLOODGOOD MAPLE.

What brand should I buy? Any reasonable prices? What am I expected to have to shell out?

Since you are asking this question here and not in photo.net or your local camera shop and since you say, "reasonable prices," I will skip the high end and join Ace in recommending the Nikon D40. I've got a long-winded stock answer that I will spare you, but check out Nikon's "Picturetown" promotion, where they handed out 200 D40's in Georgetown, SC. http://www.stunningnikon.com/picturetown /

You can get the D40 with the 18-55 kit lens at B&H Photo available through Yahoo! Shopping or at 1-800-622-4987) for $480 (April 2008). Add a Lexar Platinum (60X speed) card for $25 or 2 GB for $35. Or - get the D40 with 18-135 lens and 1 GB Lexar card for around $700. This is a decent lens and it is very versatile. You will find it suitable for pretty much anything you want to do, other than really long telephoto shots. It will let you explore the range of focal lengths to decide where to start filling in your lens collection. If you don't want to buy any more lenses, this one will carry you through pretty much everything.

If you have a little more in the budget, go for the newer D60, if only because it comes with a vibration reduction ("VR") lens as part of the basic kit. (July 2008 - $629.95)
