Do i need a slow shutter speed or a large aperture? What advantage and effect does a larger aperture make to a photo?
You need a slower shutter speed. That will require a smaller aperture to balance out the exposure. A small aperture gives a greater depth of field but lets in less light. More of the picture is in focus. A slower shutter speed will cause moving objects to be blurred and will let more light in.
Good photography is a combination of the two.

Hi I've recently bought a Nikon D80 Camera.
I'm just wonder what settings do people use to take high quality professional looking photos?
I understand a lot of the professional photos we see on the interent or magazines are edited by photoshop, but how to do they take good photos for editing with SLR cameras?
Thanks in advance!

Whenever I'm taking a picture with my 300mm Sigma lens, I see it as perfectly in focus in the viewfinder, but then when I put the photo on my computer it's always a bit blurry.
Friends say it's because the lens is "soft" but then if that's true then why do I see perfect focus in the viewfinder looking through the same lens?
Is there some kind of adjustment I can make to make my photos clear?
Use a tripod.
Release the shutter with the camera's self-timer or a cable release.
Keep your f-stop at between f5.6 and f11 which should be the range of maximum performance for your lens.
Keep your ISO low (100) unless you're trying to shoot sports/action.
If you absolutely have to hand-hold this lens then keep your shutter speed at 1/500 and above.
I always use a tripod, even when taking landscapes with a 21mm wide-angle lens.

I heard a digital SLR camera is better than one wih LCD, but is there that much of a difference??? Am I better off with LCD, the cheaper choice? What's your opinion?
Thanx.
LOL! I'm reading the answers, I guess its clearly apparent I don't know about cameras much...
yes there is
how often will you be using the camera ?
All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......
The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions
we should also refer to cameras as 35mm or 35mm style, medium format or large format. a film slr will outperform a 39mp digital camera as a 500c/m hasselblad is an slr.
