Please explain basically which would be better

It highly depends on planned usage of cameras (e.g. inside house or outdoor)


1. Camera 1 has no Auto Iris. This way I would not recommend to use it outdoor on the sun.

It has 3.6 mm lens and 1/3" sensor. This means horizontal angle of view is 67,4 degree.


2. Second camera is more expen

Variofocal lens - (so you can choose field of view) - variable horizontal angle of view from 24.6 to 81.2

I have a Sony time lapse VCR, three JVC CCTV cameras that I want to install on my house. I have an idea what kind of cable I need for connecting the cameras, but I don't know if I will be needing an additional device to connect the cameras to. I have heard of a four channel quad processor, but I,m not sure. Please anybody help me clear the smoke.

That all depends on how you want to view the images. With a VCR as with any single channel recorder there are three ways you can go.

1. Sequential switcher - sequences camera's. You can miss things with this method
2. Quad splitter - splits 4 images onto one screen. When you play back you will only see the split screen and have no control over it. You will see everything but at 1/4 the size.
3. Quad multiplexer - sequentially sends images to the recorder. Also has the ability to take those sequential images from the recorder and "play back" in order. You can view played back images in split screen what ever you like.
example: numbers indicate camera number

1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2 , 3, 4

Playback through Multiplexer
1, 1, 1

Obviously depending on the multiplexer you purchase, there will be spaces between the images (Not real time). Truth be known, with what you will end up spending if you go this route, you may just want to consider a digital video recorder (DVR) All images are recorded onto a harddrive and you can view them in a similar manner as the multiplexer.
There are also multi channel PC cards available, but I would definately not recommend this option. Computers crash and the quality is not as good as a dedicated linux box.

I hooked up this CCTV/surveillance camera (1/3” SONY SUPER HAD CCD 520 TVL DAY AND NIGHT WEATHERPROOF COLOR CAMERA WITH 36 IR LED) with time lapse video cassete recorder today and it works just fine. but somehow on the middle of monitor, an ERROR 3 appeared and it wont go away. Can someone tell me what went wrong and how to make it go away? Thank you very much.

As you can see in the specs, one is 3.6mm lens and one is 8mm lens. Everything else looks the same but the 8mm lens one come with a power supply and they both cost the same price. So which one is better? the 3.6 mm or 8mm, I want the one that will have the best resolution and picture.

Check out the specifications about the sensor size and buy the one that has larger sensor (physical dimensions).

we are finishing our basement and i am thinking of putting a security camera down there to help keep and eye on my preschool aged son when i'm upstairs. how big of an area can one camera watch? will i be able to hook it up to my TV or computer to watch? are they pretty easy to install? if it has zoom or pan/tilt, how do i control these? a joystick?

this is the type i am thinking about getting. any other suggestions?
