I have referred to the manual, and it's says if I press the < and > buttons, then I should be able to change between the scenes. When I press <, i get the timer options, and when i press >, i get the flash options. I am stuck on the 'night mode', and it's really annoying when I want to take pictures during the day. Please help!
For day time shooting, you don't have to shoot in scene mode. Turn the dial to A (auto mode) or P (program mode). These are probably better suited to daylight shooting anyways. Scene mode is for special instance shooting, like at night, sports or portraits.
To change the Scene mode on your camera, you need to hit the OK center button before pressing the < or > button.

I'm a first time buyer of digital cameras. Two have caught my eye- the Vivitar 8400 and the Nikon Coolpix L11?
Which should I buy?
Hi... I can't comment on the Nikon but I have just bought the Vivitar. Its the 3rd point and shoot digital I've had, purchased mostly for the higher resolution. What I really like, that is different from others I've had or used is the ability to set manual shutter speeds, ISO and aperatures, therefore giving you the ability to control depth of field and the like. It also has a decently close focusing macro setting, good for most snapshot type photos. I've got more Nikon 35mm cameras and lenses than I know what to do with but the convienience of manipulating my prints digitally is very appealing. Money is an object and I can't afford to replace my film equipment with equivilent digital. The biggest downside is the speed it chews up batteries. At least 2x as fast as the Kodak 4 meg its replacing. I'm hoping that going to 2500m amp rechargables will give me reasonable use, otherwise I'll be carrying alot of batteries around. The 3x optical zoom is "adequate" and pretty standard. The digital zoom (ALL digital zooms) are a waste... you can do exactly the same thing when you're manipulating the photo in your computer. What would make this an ideal camera would be a wider angle zoom, far better battery life and the ability to make long time exposures. (like a "B" setting). All said, I didn't see anything other camera close to the features for the price I paid and if $20 for good rechargable batteries solves the energy issue, I'll be very happy with this camera indeed. Hope this helps. RS
I'm trying to find a 'budget' 8MP camera and I'm looking at the Vivitar vivicam 8400. How well does it work? I'm looking to take family pics as well as product pics for uploading to my online auction. I'm pure amateur, but will this provide a reasonable service? Is the LCD crisp and clear or dark? Or if anyone can recommend another camera model, please do. Thanks
I don't have any. I could only find one review.
Have you tried reading your owners manual? You just hook the USB cable that came with the camera between the camera and the USB port on your computer and download the photo. From there you can upload the photo to any number of online printing services, or print it yourself if you have a home printer.
In the future, it is far better to use a removable memory card to store your photos rather than the internal memory of the camera. That camera uses an SD card, and they can be bought in many capacity sizes. You could then simply remove the card and take it most anywhere that has photo services and have photos printed from directly from the card.

Underwater Accessories: Purchase Vivitar Vivicam 8400 8.1MP ...
I bought this camera right before a trip to California. I thought it was a good price for a waterproof camera. It did great on a kayaking trip and a rafting trip. Both times I dipped it in the water to see if it would do okay, and it did. The next trip, though, was snorkeling. Within about 5 minutes of being in the water, the camera was shot. Water had gotten into the battery compartment and totally fried it. Tonight I called Vivitar customer service to see about their warranty. They will send me a replacement, but no refund. So now I've traded a not-very-good camera for the same thing. I would stay away from this camera.Get more detail about Vivitar Vivicam 8400 8.1MP Digital Camera 8x Digital Zoom, 2.4" Screen, Photos/Short Movies Down to 10 Meters Underwater - Yellow.
