Vivitar Vivicam 8400

I'm trying to find a 'budget' 8MP camera and I'm looking at the Vivitar vivicam 8400. How well does it work? I'm looking to take family pics as well as product pics for uploading to my online auction. I'm pure amateur, but will this provide a reasonable service? Is the LCD crisp and clear or dark? Or if anyone can recommend another camera model, please do. Thanks

While i was using windows xp all was well.I now have vista but the software is for xp only.Went to vivitar site and downloaded driver,installed it fine but it dose nothing

My Vivitar series 1 Vivicam 8400 8.0 megapixel digital camera will not work. This is not the water-proof camera that appears on the website though.
I have put in some new batteries in and they are both placed correctly. When i turn on the camera the red light comes on, then flashes, the screen has on it at that point 'Vivitar We make it easy'. Then everything just shuts off. The lens also doesn't come out or open. This renders the camera useless.

Please Reply and if possible give instructions on how to fix it.

I suggest you call Vivitar and ask their advice. There should be a number to call in the instruction book.

Next time buy a Canon.

When I bought my AC adapter, it didn't come with an adapter. The Vivitar webpage didn't have any AC adapters for sale. I've tried numerous online shops and they don't have AC adapters for this camera for sale. In fact, the only things I see are batteries and battery rechargers. I need constant power so that I can plug in and send video messages to my family back at home--and being plugged in and confined to an area isn't really a concern of mine.

Any ideas?

i have a vivitar vivicam 8400 8mega pix with 32MB built in memory. if i purchased a 256MB or 512MB memory card how many additional photos would i be able to take?

8 mp is the maximum you can take.
You can take photos at a smaller resolution; and you can select various quality settings (compression ratio) which directly affect the file size of each photo.
The smaller each file, the larger the number of photos per card.

On my nikon d70 (6.3 MP) each photo is about 2.5 MB so i can take about 250 photos on a 512 MB card.
