I am interested in taking courses in photography.
But I do not want to do comercial types like fashion, wedding, portriats, etc.
I am interested in sporting photography, (ie. snowmobiling, skateboarding etc.) scenery photography, and artistic photography.
Any ideas on what these types of photoghraphy are called so I am able to look up more information on it would be very helpful!
Everything I have been finding is for comercial types of photography.
Thank you for ANY information you can supply!
Well now lets see. They are called commercial, fashion, wedding, portraiture, sporting, scenic, and artistic.
Don't try to make something hard out of something simple. There are no "Greek" names for this stuff.
Photography is photography.. what you do with it is up to you and your career path. A photography course is to teach you photography... once you understand that, you can apply it to any field you want.
Better Photo has some good courses.

http://jezebel.com/gossip/hells-bells/tr ashing-on-trash-the-dress-267804.php
Apparently the latest wedding photography trend is having pictures of the bride "trashing" her expensive dress in an artistic way. This could be anything from the bride being on horseback to actually setting it on fire or immersing it in ocean water. Anyone here "trashed their dress" or plan to do that?
I saw that "Marry your babydaddy day" thing... I think it's rubbish. What if the babydaddy is a total creep? No thanks!
Would I do it? Heck no! I spent a year of my life making the lace!
On the other hand, if others really want to do it, who am I to say no? You buy the dress, it's yours to do with as you please up to and including burning it.
But if I wanted to be rid of my wedding gown after the wedding, I'd have donated it to a charity, such as one that offers wedding gowns to brides who can't afford them, or the one I heard of recently that remakes wedding gowns into burial dresses for babies whose families can't afford something nice.
Why trash things when you can recycle them in a good cause? And giving some small modicum of comfort to someone who has lost a child strikes me as a damn good reason to recycle.

I keep hearing the buzz word 'image stabilisation'. I dont think that they have it on the EOS30D. Is this a feature that I'm going to kick myself for not getting. I'm thinking about getting more seriously into wedding photography and my Kodak z740 is not performing well on the 'rush down the aisle' or the 'dansing' shots. My photos are artistic and I totally have an eye for it, but if I cant get the important shots then I cant start charging :) Any help/ suggestions? Thanks!
Canon cameras do not have image stabilization...some specific lenses for them do.
Image stabilization will benefit you if you shoot handheld a lot. It will help in lower lighting conditions where a flash is not allowed or impractical. It can give you up to three stops better performance.
It is not the holy grail, though. If you can..use a tripod and cable/remote release or a timer.
I have no image stabilization and I do fine. Without IS, you'll just need some good, fast glass.
I'm wanting to find a career that allows me to create and design but I'm not really sure what I should try to get into. I have limited experience with photography but quite a bit of experience with photo manipulation I enjoy anything design related (interior, architecture, wedding, graphic, floral, etc). Any suggestions on career fields and suggestions on how to get started?
well I would sugest looking into colledges that offer art majors or just take a walk to your local library and research some famous artist and see how they got started and if that doesent help you can allways find information on various websites or the local paper
My fiance and I are trying to save money on our wedding, so we were just planning to hire a photographer for formal portraits before/after the ceremony and the pictures during the ceremony. We know lots of artistic people (like people who go to school for design and photography) that will be at the wedding and we were hoping to ask them to take the rest of the pictures at the reception (the first dance and cake cutting, and then just candid shots for the rest of the night).
I've heard that you have to book wedding photographers in 6-8 hour time blocks, is it normal to just book them for 2 hours (ceremony and 1 hour for portraits afterwards) and one location (the church)?
Thanks!
I don't want to "skimp" on photography (thanks for the warning) really the problem is my fiancé's brother IS a photographer, BUT he's in the wedding party, so he can't do the portraits of the whole party together.
I have no doubt that if he does the rest of the photos (like at the reception) they will turn out beautiful, because his photography always looks amazing.
We booked our photographer for just a few hours. I didn't want a photographer following me around all day, taking pictures of me looking wistfully out the window and lovingly at my shoes. We also knew we had some excellent amateur photographers in the crowd who would take good candid photos (and they did). Instead of using a wedding photographer, we used a person who specializes in corporate event photography. She was much more used to being booked for smaller amounts of time, and for getting specific shots. She's done some weddings, so she had all that stuff down, too. Her rates were much better than wedding photgraphers', and she was much more flexible.
