Best Wedding Photography

I am expanding my wedding photography business http://www.andrei-photo.com.
What would be the best way to reach people ? I heard Yellow pages don't work anymore. Some suggested to put Ad on Google. What is your experience?

develop a portfolio or brochure that shows some of your work as well as referral contacts from satisfied customers. Contact wedding planners to see if they would be willing to use and/or recommend your services. Drop off glossy flyers at florists that specialize in wedding arrangements... get a web page that not only showcases the work you've done, but also has testimonials from satisified customers. Join your local chamber of commerce and network.... be prepared to divulge your business information such as successes, failures, etc.

Nearly every large church has a wedding coordinator on staff (usually a volunteer)... make sure you get flyers and info out to them - many times a bride will trust their church coordinator to make these sort of recommendations.

Consider expanding to engagement photos as well... many bride-to-bes want pre-wedding photos to share with their friends... these are usually less formal than the actual wedding day photos.

I'm a wedding photographer. I'm interested in getting a magazine with wedding photography as its main subject.

I'm not familiar with any magazine with wedding photography as its main subject.

However, Inside Weddings has lots of good photos. Some of them are studio shots of course, but lots of them are actual wedding shots. I use it to help get the couple focused on the types of photos they like best during pre-planning.

What is your fool-proof, can't-live-without secret that works for professional wedding photography?

Ask the client what they are looking for. Use your smarts - don't shoot up at people on the alter, for example - you wind up with unflattering shots up people's noses.

Make sure to take photos other than formals. Formals are nice, but that quiet moment after the ceremony where they look at each other is nicer.

You don't say if you're the bride or the photographer - the advice would be better if we knew.

Make sure that you look at people before you shoot. It the father of the groom had a big hairy mole on the left side of his face, switch the bride and groom so that side is away from the camera. If you look before you line them up, it's much less embarrassing.

if we're taking outside wedding photos, when is the best time of day? Sunlight, evening? any ideas?

I would say that the same applies here as with other types of photography. The morning and evening give the best light. Around noon, when the sun is high in the sky, the shadows become harsh and a flash becomes necessary if the people are in direct sunlight because of the harsh shadows cast across the faces.

I know everyone has a preference and it also depends on how one uses a camera but just technologically speaking, what is the top, most used digital camera right now by professional wedding photographers and possibly why?

I know Canon and Nikon are the most used, I am looking for an answer with a specific model. Like Nikon D3 or something like that. Something used by professional wedding photographers

Personally, I use Canon 40D and 5DMkII. Its Canon V Nikon really (a bit like PC V Mac). Both will get the job done and it comes down to personal preference.

Though, more important than the camera itself is:

1. The lenses. A poor quality lens on the best camera will result in a poor image.
2. The ability of the photographer. As stated, all the best gear in the world cant make a bad photo a good one.
