I'm in Sydney - I want to have photos at my house, the ceremony, bridal party photos and at the reception. Any idea how much I'm looking at?
I looked on a few websites, but just thought someone might have an idea... Thanks
In California...I think average is $2500-3500, but it can easily go up to $5000. I just paid $2700 and that included 5 hours w/ 2 photog's, online viewing, proofs, pic's on a disc and a very elaborate album..(which I probably won't get for a year). No prints, no engagement session.
My advice, try to get the most hours in your package as possible.

I am trying to figure up my budget, how long do yo usually need the photographer for?
I dont want any pre-ceremony preparation (like bridal party and such) pictures. Just of the location, us all dressed up, me and my (new) husband, and some photo's around the area. We are getting married in a state park.
Thanks!
For what you want...I would say approximately 4 hours should do. A wedding day goes by very quickly and sometimes you have to ask your photographer to stay a little longer.
I would suggest that you go with a photographer that has packages and can give you all day coverage. Even though you might now want pre-ceremony pics right now, you might in the long run regret it. Remember this only happens once, and you want to be able to have the greatest memories through photography

Photographic Print Title: The Bridal Party Before the Wedding Reception

I am taking photography next year once i move back to Canada and plan on focusing on mainly weddings. I was thinking of subscribing to a bridal magazine to help get ideas so unique posses for the bride and bridal party so I can be as helpful as possible. Does this sound like a good idea or do you have any other suggestions??
Just when I got married my photography didn't give much guidance so we took control and I don't my clients to feel like I am useless!!
Thanks!! :)
Yeah i think that is actaully a great idea!
young models and photographers always get inspiration from other peoples proffesional photos! You can always find some photography tips online.
And just think of it this way. What are the 5 top words that come to mind when you think of marriage. And focus frame by fram on one apect of a marriage and work it from there!
Good luck :)

Photographic Print Title: Brides and Bridal Parties Visit the Memorial for Photographs

I am starting a small company that will include:
*Photography (Mostly outside in natural light - portraits, engagement, maternity, family, children)
*Graphic Design (flyers, invitations, favors, Christmas Cards, business cards, ...)
* Event Planning (Showers - baby and bridal, birthday, engagement parties)
I am very involved in my church and love Jesus with all my heart.
I have been thinking about a company name since July this year. I came up with
J29:Eleven Designs. (Favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11) This reminds people of 9/11. I don't want a company name that reminds people of a ver sad day in American History.
I have an excel spreadsheet that is filled with ideas. Can you help?
I really didn't want to have the name too long but because it encompass so much stuff I should include Photography and Graphic Design. You think?
I love these:
Pixel
Shutter
Blissful
Brilliance
Milestone

Hi Cali:
I love Jesus too! You do alot of different things so you don't want a name like Shutter that just points to the photography part of your business. I think you need a broader name. I do alot of things too, all under "design" so I called my business "Plain Jane Design" and underneath that, list "photography, painting, interior design". That way, I can give my card out for any of those interests. I kind of liked the J29:Eleven Designs myself:D
Now that I've got your attention, I have an honest question (mainly for the guys, but hopefully the ladies can offer some insight. I'm a wedding photographer. During last weekend, I was filming the bridal party getting ready. The bride is still in her PJ's and just finished her makeup, and I've got my back to her while I'm getting MOB talking with the Grandma. I turn back around to get the bride, and BOOM! The bride is standing there just wearing just her lace bra and panties. Immediately drop my camera down, and do a 180. Bride laughs and says, "It's fine"... That's right, she said IT's FINE??I kept my back to her, and just said, "I'll be out here in the living room. Just let me know when you're zipping the dress." I was really embarrased I had a hard time making eye contact with the bride the rest of the night. I mean, the scenery was pleasent to the eyes, but I just felt uncomfortable. The bride is a famous fashion model, so she is used to having people look at her with little clothes on...
But this leads me to the question: Have any of you been in this situation? Obviously, if I had known she was about to drop trow, I would have quietly left the room. But I wasn't expecting her to just strip in the middle of the room! When she said "It's fine" did she actually expect me to continue rolling?
For the women: Shouldn't I have gotten some warning? Should I have send a female photographer?
Any input/tasteless jokes/comments/making fun of me greatly appreciated!!!
I am a woman and a wedding photographer and I would say that more often than not the bride just strips without any warning. She has probably already been seen in her underwear by everyone in the room before....besides the photographer hopefully. But I would just say that it shows me you were doing something right. The bride should hardly even notice you're there. I always like it when they go about their day without always trying to pose or smile for the camera. You get much better candids that way.

Planning Your Wedding Timeline
Planning Your Wedding Timeline
There are so many wonderful guides online to help you plan and map out your wedding day timeline.
This timeline from Liene Stevens over at Blue Orchid is a great guide to help you remember to include key events into your timeline that you might otherwise neglect. Also here’s a fabulous mock up timeline from WeddingBee that show’s how a wedding timeline might look for brides to have a starting point in planning their day.
I thought it might be fun to add my thoughts as a photographer to these great minds on things to consider when drafting your wedding timeline. And since I’m a photographer, most of my suggestions tend to be about the photography heavy portions of the day!
Family Photos: If you have very small families you can get away with 15-20 minutes for this sections of the day. I usually suggest having 30-45 minutes set aside just for family photos. We usually don’t get all of this time due to outside factors such as a family member being late or MIA at the time of photos. Also it’s common to add extra group photos as we are shooting. I love adding extra groups as I come from a huge family and always want to have the shot of me and my cousins of my mom and her sisters, but it does add extra time so buffering your time-line to allow for these kinds of situations is a great idea.
