I have been asked to do this as a favor to a family member..I have done amateur photography for years, but never portrait. Any tips on poses etc? It's outdoor. I'm quite nervous.
Yes this is the bridal portrait only.
They cannot afford a real photographer.
I do not want to ever do this for a living.
Are you just doing a bridal portrait, or are you shooting the wedding?
If you are doing a bridal portrait shoot it very early in the morning during the 'golden hour' when the light is soft, warm, and very flattering, or just at sunset when the light is similar. Use partial fill flash or reflectors to soften the shadows even more. Look at bridal magazines to get ideas for poses and props.
If you are shooting the wedding, don't! This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for the couple and you should not agree to do it if you have no experience. You need to work as an assistant to a wedding photographer to learn how to do it right before you do a wedding on your own.

I'm looking for a good photographer to take my bridal portrait. I already have my wedding photography taken care of and I'm having a hard time finding a photographer for my bridal portrait. I'm getting married out of town so it's not possible to use my wedding photographer. If anybody knows of a good photographer that does bridal portraits let me know.
If you don't get a great response here, might I suggest http://www.theknot.com to you.
You can interact with other engaged women by area and get their opinions on photographers in Raleigh.
Hope that helps, and congratulations!!!
I have an opportunity to attend a vocational school for an 18 month Commercial Photography Program. This is there outline. Photographer's what are you opinions? Or should I just go to an actual university?

PGY0185 - Commercial Photographer (450 hours) – Includes training in computer tethered digital cameras, commercial lighting, multimedia presentations, table top product photography, architectural, and product photography and preparing a business plan.
it's not a bad plan.. you'll find that it cover most of the basic areas very well if they stick to what they described. The B/W section seems to cover general photography more than B/W by the description.
Good luck
I want something classic but not boring. I am totally dry! please help me out, I need it! it's a portrait photography business. I take wedding photos, senior pics, engagement and bridal, and I'm also moving into maternity and child portraits. I also do a lot of family portraits. Anything relevant to these would work great! thanks, so much!
Memories/Memory.
Or Reminisce Photography? I don't think that sounds as good, though.
I have to shoot bridal portraits for a bride next week. She doesn't want them in my studio nor is she willing to shoot outdoors (where we usually go, Mercer Arboretum). I'm okay with her not wanting in the studio but that usually means outdoors; which she has refused. HELP!
I need ideas in the Houston area where I can shoot bridal portraits indoors. I just don't want to have to jump through a bunch of hoops and/or cut through miles of red tape to get permission to enter some place and photography. Any ideas?
She lives in West Houston, my studio is in East Houston and she is being married in Galveston. I'm thinking anywhere in between will make us happy if we can just find a beautiful, elegant INDOOR location. HELP!
It depends on the setting she wants.
The few places I can think of
1. Moody Gardens.
2. Museum of Natural Science
3. There is a big house next to the museum.
4. Galleria - but there it will be hard to have pictures without people.
5. There is a place called Robin's Nest. It is near Richmond and Montrose. It is a beutiful old house - we go married there. They have a web site but I cant remember what it was.
I am sure there are plenty of other places, those are the ones I can think of right now.
Of course, you will need to call those places and find out if they would allow pictures and if there are any charges.
Good Luck.
