Brides On A Budget Photography

how many hours to budget for wedding photography?

We're taking all of our photography before the ceremony, since the reception begins immediately following (evening ceremony so it'd be best to take all pictures earlier in the day).

I know I will fix a timeline more accurately with the photographer, but so I can approximate for my family's sake...I'd like to estimate when to start the photography.

We have brides' family, grooms' family, 5 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen, private B&G photos, 2-3 locations all within 1/2 mile from each other.

Should I budget 30 mins for each group or more like 1 hour per group?

From those of you who have already experienced, I've love to hear from you!

Thanks!

I know our photographer could not get enough photos of us... I would suggest to leave at least an hour per group + travelling times. You would do best talking to your photographer though - they will know better how long they take.

wedding magic and photography on a budget?

Hi, I just wanted to share this with couples that are having their weddings and need a little bit of info, in return I have some questions which would help me.

My questions are:
Who is doing your wedding photography?
Friend, family, professional?

How much are you paying for your wedding photographer?
Ball part figures with album inc.. 300-500, 500-750, 750-1000, 1000-1500, 1500-2500? (please put currency)

Now some info for you.

Weddings can be a costly affair and when it comes to a wedding its about two people and having a great day that’s fun and a little stress as possible.

We went on a bit of a hunt around for one of our wedding shoots which was a trash the dress wedding shoot, so we pretty much had to get everything to make the bride look like a bride. So for a few English pounds we managed to pull this off and she looked as good as many other brides who have spent a fortune.

Wedding dress – Ebay, it was easy and simple to order the dress in and well, they say something old… we paid just £18.00 for the dress delivered! (We are looking at other dresses around £100.00 which are made in china and take 16 weeks to get here, so this is always an option for you.

We have lots of stores that sell hair stuff and accessories (claries accessories) so we went in and bought some jewellery and a tiara. This came in at £46.00 roughly as we bought some fake nails as well.

So one bride for less than £65.00

For the groom suit hire is simple, or the wall-mart (asda) suit that is a good fit! With a good waistcoat and a cravat will add to the figure. So suit new is around £50.00 waistcoat £35.00 and cravat £3.00 or less. Suit hire is around £40.00

{If you find a fabric shop you will find you can buy lace for a veil and silks for the cravats at a very low price! Or borrow your mother veil as they say something borrowed!}

One groom £75.00

Low cost wedding venues and wedding
For some the wedding venue is the must have and for consideration is any public place, we are thinking fun! So parks, theme parks, forests etc.. anything goes if you go for a French styled wedding. By this I mean that what you do is have a small registry office wedding, which is around £35.00, just something really simple.
Then find a minister or someone that knows how to conduct a wedding to hold a wedding service for you as the minister.
This means that you can open up your theme and how you want your wedding to be. And you just repeat your wedding vows with all your invited guests.

Some locations you will need a licence to hold your wedding event, its just a small short party so it could be free but its worth checking. These charges are around £35.00

Wedding £70.00 (from)

I am writing a book on wedding cooking and it shows how to cater for weddings and events with good food and a minimal budget. I haven’t got the figures to pull off the top of my head but it works out around £6.00 per head for a four-course meal. But needs to consider chairs and tables and settings. All in all as a rough estimate that will be around £200.00

I know this is a little short and doesn’t go into detail, when I have the time, I will be putting it all on the website..

And the total is around:£410.00

We used a professional because a friend of ours used a relation to take photographs and it was a shambles. It costs us a little over $3,000AUS but we got more than we expected.

I guess you're pre-empting questions by providing the information above. I didn't think you could do that here. If people find some benefit from the above they may also want some straight tips on beach wedding photography and contemporary wedding photography.

I hope they help.

help: wedding photography on a budget?

I know that where I live, all-day packages with bells and whistles are about $3000 + -- this is my entire wedding budget!! Would it be too rude and tacky of me to ask my sister in-law (who is a professional wedding photographer) to provide services (nothing too fancy; I want her to have fun too) at-cost in lieu of a wedding gift? I also want to encourage my guests to have fun with their digital cameras and send me their favourites...is this a bad idea? I know that photos are the only physical thing that remains of the day, so I want some quality shots.

What have you brides done, or are planning to do?

What worked/didn't work?

Thank you!
good points, fizzy stuff. I agree, now that I think about it.

I agree with calling around to get an hourly rate, I offer an hourly rate in addition to all of the wedding packages. I also agree with Fizzy - I've given my services as a gift before but I end up not stopping to have fun. It's all or nothing with a professional.

Another good alternative would to be to create a flyer and post it on a college campus, or talk to some photography instructors to see if they have any wonderful students they could refer you to. A few years ago I had an instructor that referred me to about 8 weddings because he knew that my passion was wedding photography and I'd do it for "cheap" since technically they were paying for a student photographer. At the time I had already begun my career and was in school so that I could provide my clients with some “proof” that I knew how to take a good photo and understood the theory of photography, outside of his referrals I was getting paid about $1000/wedding depending on what they wanted. You can also get a pair of students, or even three for the cost of one "professional" at their hourly rate. Students are also more likely to give you unrestricted reproduction rights for free, whereas a "pro" will charge upwards of $500 for the full resolution copies.

Make sure that you review their portfolio and shoot with them at least once before the wedding to make sure they are up to snuff – and DO NOT pay a student till the wedding is OVER. Pay them at the end of the night or mid-way through the reception – AFTER all the important events have been captured. Trust me on this one, I’ve seen a student take the money then never show, or take bad shots. If they are comfortable with it pay them ½ at the event and the remainder when you get your photos/disc/prints/etc. And remember to tip accordingly. I did a wedding for free once, but the couple after seeing the work sent me a $300 tip, and a few more referrals.

Another way to find a “new” photographer is to find a seasoned veteran and ask if they can refer you to their understudy. You will get a person that is serious about photography and has been studying under a “real pro” so your photos are going to be marginally better than a student.

I 100% believe that good photos are taken by talented people – it doesn’t matter what equipment they use or how much they cost – some people have the eye and some don’t.

You can also look on Craigslist, or advertise on Craisglist that you are looking for a photographer. You are willing to help them build their portfolio with engagement session, wedding and possibly a trash-the-dress. TTDs are very enticing to a fun photographer, and I’ll discount a wedding if I get to shoot a TTD!

If you lived near me I’d shoot your wedding for free – I love weddings! That’s my #1 pitfall as a professional, I’m always changing my rates to accommodate people who can’t fit a photographer into their budget, I think every bride deserves a great album full of memories to look back on in daily life and when she shows the kids, grandkids and hopefully the great-grandkids.

Good Luck!
& Congratulations!

What is the best advice from newly wedded brides that you can give to a bride to be?

I want to plan a wedding under $15,000. But, I have over 300 guests. I would like to find out what the best deals are on invitations, cakes, reception halls, caterers, photography, and flowers. Do you have any do it yourself ideas? i want an elegant but with in budget wedding. HELP!

Begin your wedding preparations at least a year in advance. Do some research on wedding planning. The least expensive route for your research is your public library, which will have numerous books, and maybe some recent bridal magazines, you can look through for free. Talk to your future spouse about everything concerning the wedding. He may tell you to "do what you want", but you do need to let him know what is going on.

My mother made my dress and veil for my first wedding. (I was 18) The dress was a beautiful soft white satin with a built-in train that could be hooked to the back of the bodice after the ceremony and during the reception. I was married for 25 years. I don't have the husband anymore, but I do still have the dress, which I hope will pass to one of my granddaughters.

I spent thousands of dollars on wedding gowns for my two daughters. The dresses ended up at the thrift store or a consignment shop. If you have someone in your family who is a seamstress, consider asking them to make your dress. It will mean so much more to you years from now because the dress will have been made with love, not produced on an assembly line.

Involve your family in as many details of your wedding as possible. Your family loves you, and will be thrilled to help you. Save on photography costs by asking a family member who has some experience in photography to take pictures before the wedding and at the reception.

Of course, you will want a professional photographer to take charge of the "portrait" pictures.

The reception for my eldest daughter's wedding took place at a local hotel that had facilities for receptions. The hotel provided a choice of foods they could offer and the price for xxx number of guests. This was a buffet, not a sit-down dinner. Expect to pay twice as much for a sit-down dinner.

You, your future spouse, and your family and his, have many decisions ahead of you; but, with advance preparation, you will be able to walk down the aisle without any stress. Even with a few minor mishaps, which will inevitably happen, I have never seen. or been a part of, a wedding that was not beautiful.

The Bride Wore Boots | Daily Yonder | Keep It Rural

As is typically the case for young women, I went through a phase where each year brought two or three weddings to attend. More often than not, these affairs took place in rural Northeast Texas. Sometimes I was a happy guest, other times, a cheerful bridesmaid.

Where I grew up, when a gal accepted an invitation to be a member of the bridal party, her mother usually made the dress from a pattern and material selected by the bride-to-be. This is how I came to wear a Pepto-Bismol pink lace-and-satin dress that would have made Shelby Eatenton Latcherie  neon green with envy. Typically there were a few “other duties as assigned” for the bridesmaids and their families, just as there’d been for my mother when she was a young woman living on a South Texas farm.

We country girls were expected—and more than willing—to help out with a variety of tasks, many of them the kinds of things I understood city brides typically hired a pro to undertake. For one wedding, I learned how to fashion pink, burgundy and grey icing roses (yes, grey--the groom’s favorite color!) using instructions in a Wilton’s cake decorating book. A couple of years later, my artistically gifted mother helped another family create an elaborate floral display for their home’s large, curving stairwell; the bride had raised and dried her own autumnal flowers just outside the house for the project.
