Destination Wedding Photography - thoughts and ideas?
Virginia Beach Vintage Weddings and Engagement Photography - Studio 757

How do I find a wedding photographer that would come to the all inclusive resort? What are some ball park prices for this sort of service?

I was thinking about just getting everyone disposable cameras. I wouldn't expect all the pictures to be fantastic but it would be pretty cool to get different perspectives of the wedding and such.
Several of my family members do quite well with photography, so I'm wondering if it would be reasonable to have one of them take the more official pictures.

What was your experience and what would you recommend?

There is this photographer Larry Perez that is amazing at destination weddings. I think he just has you pay his air fare and thats it... or something. He's at www.larryperez.com
I think you will love his work. We would've booked with him but he already had a wedding that day. :(
Congrats!

What is the difference between a proof book and a wedding album?
Virginia Beach Vintage Weddings and Engagement Photography - Studio 757

I am planning a wedding and all the photography lingo leaves me lost. It's hard to figure out who is offering you the better deal when you don't quite know what they're offering you. It is a destination wedding so we won't be able to sit down to view the options during a consultation. Is there one that has better quality usually?

The proof book is pretty much all of the photos from your wedding and the majority of them will be unedited. It will also be in more of a utilitarian layout, so not very pretty. This is normally used by brides and grooms to view and show others their images and then select the ones they'd like to purchase.

A wedding album should have all edited photos and it will be in a layout that is aesthetically pleasing. This is obviously a keepsake.

Can anyone recommend a reputable company for a Oahu Destination Wedding?
Virginia Beach Vintage Weddings and Engagement Photography - Studio 757

My Fiance and I are planning a destination wedding (with abou100 guest attending) I have researched so many wedding companys that offer beach wedding packages. We are planning a reception following the ceremony. Can anyone recommend a company to provide a beach front wedding (minister, flowers, chairs, photography etc) that reputable? We are looking for quality and professionalism.
Also, any recommendations for travel agents or company that can provide my wedding party and guests with decent pricing since there are quite a few people going? Great group rate discounts?
Thank you, I just feel like there is so much to do and I don't know where to start.. (I haven't even chosen wedding colors)
I have reserved the "Halekulani Hau Terrace and Lanai" for the reception but have a week to give the deposit. Has anyone used this area before or suggest otherwise? Thanks..

I'm surprised that the Halekulani can't give you someone to help you as part of their service - lots of hotels will. Get a wedding planner - here's a link or two - check out Hawaii Bride mag's also

Destination wedding with a reception back home, etiquette? Can it be on my dads birthday?
Virginia Beach Vintage Weddings and Engagement Photography - Studio 757

Okay, so my fiancée and I want to have a wedding at the church in Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo about four hours from where we live, part of the package includes a reception with flower, photography, carriage ride, cake, buffet dinner and the actual wedding. We can only have 55 guests so my parents want us to have a regular reception back home so all relatives and friends can come.
They are paying for it, so we say why not? :->

I was wondering if there were any etiquette rules that I should know about? My mom wants to have it on my dads 50th birthday. My dad wouldn't want to make it all about him, it would be fun because we could sing happy birthday to him and surprise him with a black cake. Plus it would shut up my sister in law that says I cant get married during her birthday month, if my dad can share his 50th birthday, she should be able to share her birthday month, right?

So, any etiquette rules that I should be aware of?
Its not about my dads birthday. It just happens that would be the best date for it. My mom doesnt want it to be a birthday party, no birthday decorations. She just said that it might be a nice memory for me since its just a second reception.

My parents are worried that older relatives will feel bad that they didn't get to come to the actual wedding.
Thanks for the answers. The actual wedding would be about 3 weeks earlier. Its a destination wedding with a reception back home. The reception would be on his birthday but our aniversary would not.

You don't have anything etiquette wise to worry about.

A post wedding celebration is customary for destination weddings. Very often family and friends can't travel the distance to a wedding for whatever reason. The party gives them a chance to congratulate you.

If you and your parents want it on your father's birthday, then, you should do it. Like you said, it will give you a nice memory.

It sounds wonderful and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.
Good luck.

What is the best Caribbean Island to work as a wedding photographer?
Virginia Beach Vintage Weddings and Engagement Photography - Studio 757

I am a professional wedding photographer in the midwest. I've shot several weddings in the Caribbean and Mexico, and I want to move to the Caribbean in 2010 to pursue my wedding photography career. Originally I was thinking USVI because of the citizenship issues, but now I am also thinking Costa Rica because of the low cost of living.

I want to make sure wherever I move will be a popular wedding destination so I can keep busy. Wherever I decide I'll go for 2-3 months next year to get used to the location, etc. I plan on working for myself, but am open to also getting a second p/t job somewhere on the island.

Thanks in advance!

No matter where you decide to go.. you'll need a business license and permit as well as working papers. Business license sometimes have a hefty fee. Some places not.
As for a second job...most caribbean islands have a high unemployment rate and don't allow foreigners to take jobs away from the locals.. Again.. work permits can be pricey.. depending on where you are.. and what you are looking to do.
Costa Rica really doesn't have a low cost of living for those who want ANY amenities at all. It's quite expensive for foreigners.

Do some homework before pulling up roots.

  • Nina & David's Destination Wedding in Prague! | The Prague, Czech ...

Congratulations to our latest couple to marry here in Prague: Nina & David!

Nina & David traveled down from the UK with their close family & friends to wed at St. Clement’s Church in the heart of Prague. It was a beautiful ceremony in the very simple church that is quite popular with the expat community. After their ceremony and a round of celebrations and congratulations, we headed off to Vrtbovska Zahrada to create some stunning portraits of our newlyweds on a truly beautiful fall day.

When I create portraits of couples it is important to allow them time to enjoy their surroundings and more importantly each other, with Nina & David that was the easy part as they really took in the stunning views of Vrtbovska.

We also headed off to a very popular destination here in Prague for wedding portraits, the John Lennon Wall which now looks much better and is again on our places to visit for wedding photography. With a few final images at the famous Astronomical Clock in Staromestske Namesti, it was time to take leave of Nina & David as they went to join up with family & friends at their reception.
