Do wedding photographers using digital cameras, let the couple keep the disc of pics.Under what terms usually?
Olympus Gear

Can the wedding couple keep the disc of photos from a professional wedding photographer? Back with negatives, the couple would have to pay for the negatives, what are the traditional terms now with digital images? If they charge, how much usually. Does anyone have a general contract that the photographer uses for this? Can the couple demand the disc or ask for it? Will teh photographer offer it to stay competitive in light of new competition in among all the digital photographers? Any info you can give me on what is traditional or how the trend is moving during this time of transition from film to digital surrounding wedding photography, discs and film. photobooks etc would be much appreciated!

It depends on the package that you purchase. Most photographers will charge a fee for the images on a cd. But not all do. Mine isn't charging me for it. You have to negotiate that in the beginning. Remember, EVERYTHING is negotiable when you're getting married. Tell the photographer what you want to spend and what you want to get for it. Normally they'll agree, maybe with a little negotations.

For a wedding photographer....what are the advantages/disadvantages of having digital photography or reg. film
Olympus Gear 14-54mm on E-520

I'm getting married next year....we have 2 wonderful recommendations for this photographer who is a "Master Photographer" (not really sure what that means), but he does not do digital photography *at all* because he feels that when you print a digital print out, "it doesn't do his pictures justice" (his words). My parents really want to go with him, they have seen his work, and I have mentioned, he was highly recommended by two sources (one a family, and the other a videopgrapher we will probably hire). Anyway, here is the "conflict" of sorts....my fiancee (who works in the computer field and is VERY into computers and digital everything) wants us to have a photographer who does digital proofs. Is there a major difference between digital wedding pics and film pics? Is price a factor? I know the best way to find someone is by word of mouth recommendations, but my parents are very reluctant to go with someone they have never heard about, & my fiancee wants someone who does digital.
So, help! I would like to see what the major differences if any are, and any of your experiences with either would be great to hear if you are willing to share.

Also, isn't digital how the future is pretty much going ot be? My friend just got married, and she sent us the username ID and password to her wedding pic website, and the pics looked great. We got to see all her proofs, and order some if we wanted. But, I don't understand how someone can be so reluctant to go digital, especially if this is how people do photos now mostly.

Just to get back to my main question again: Why would you NOT want to go with someone who will do digital wedding photos, and why WOULD you go to someone who will NOT do digital wedding photos?

Hopes that makes sense....I've just never had to plan a wedding before. This is my first, and hopefully last one!!! I've got to make everyone happy, the groom of course, and my parents who are footing the bill. And I want nice pics too of course.

Kind of weird, I was in an identical situation before we selected our photographer. When we compared both, we found the real decision was whether we felt either photographer knew how to use their equipment. The traditional photographer had made many negative comments about digital, how you can't see the lighting well, how you have to wait for a few seconds between pictures, etc. When we went to our digital photographer we asked her point blank about those comments. She was able to show us her pictures and explain that with today's technology those concerns are really nothing to worry about. Also, as someone previously mentioned, in digital photography they can just take and take and take because they aren't considering the cost to develop, where as the traditional photographer said " I will take 6 or 7 rolls of film..." When it came down to it we enjoyed the digital photographers personality, proofs, and professionalism so we went with her. (Not to mention she was a little bit more cost efficient.) My parents, in the end, were just fine with our decision. They know we take deep interest in our selections we are making for vendors and that we try to consider everything. Good luck with your choice! Remember it is YOUR wedding!

Any websites or places in L.A. that will do a digital wedding album without hiring photographer?
Olympus Gear

So I hired a photographer that doesn't do the actual albums he sends them out to get done. He wants to charge me $600 for 20 pages. This seems a lot for not a lot of pages. But it's a professional digital album thick pages not like the kind they do a cvs that looks like a year book (I like those too just not for the wedding pictures). So anyone know a website that does professional albums for less?

try picaboo.com you can make your own photo books...they have flushmount which is fantastic for wedding albums, and you design it all yourself.

How difficult is the life of a professional digital photographer?
Olympus Gear 14-54mm on E-520

And I'm referring to photographers who work on a regular basis (A photojournalist. A portorit photographer. A wedding photographer. etc.) What are some aspects (both positive & negative) of being a digital photography that most people don't realize? Details=10.

The best aspect is doing something that you love. The worst aspect is the competition. Being a professional photographer is not easy, and it's a career made more difficult by an extremely saturated market.

How come with the age of digital it's harder to make a living with being a wedding Photographer?

In the film days people would pay 2,000 dollars and not complain. Now (I'm all digital) they say "What!! That's too much!! So why the big change over the last 4 years?

its due to the prolifferation of mcdonalds photographers,

in the next 24 hours 10people will buy a digital camera then ask here "how do i take professional pictures"

and the funny thing is they go out ruin someones memories then blame their camera

my advice diversify

EDIT: take the first two answers as evidence people think its the camera, they dont know its lighting/flash technique, composition et cetera......poor fools they will have horible wedding shots until they remarry --- these are the same people think if they buy a hammer they can build a house - an expensive hammer of course

  • Wedding photography and the Canon EOS 40D | Digital Photography

3:06 is the best shot of this collection, I’m still trying to figure out why he exposes the way he does. The hard light from the flash is blowing out the dress in many of the shots, there is no detail. The 1D mark III would be the optimal choice for a wedding, 10fps for quick capture, & and huge dynamic color range to help draw in the details. I noticed, all the shots with high apertures were slightly out of focus or washed out with flash, while the low apertures were more dynamic. Needs work.

Personally the only reason why I would opt for the 40D is only because it shoots faster and has a high flash sync speed compared to the 5D otherwise he would have been happier with the 5D, smoother images, slightly better dynamic range, faster focusing and full frame. What kills me is his n00b lighting. Direct flash? I’m disappointed in Canon allowing a photographer that can’t light properly be representing you as a company. Take this crap down plz.
