I'm currently planning my wedding and I want it to be a small, intimate affair of 50-75 people (including photographers, wedding crew, etc). I want to keep the guestlist very short because I've been to too many weddings wherein the bride and groom invited one person - who then brought along his entire family, complete with kids + yaya + tito/tita. I believe its only acceptable to bring a guest if the invitation specifically states "Mr. Juan dela Cruz & Guest." Unfortunately, it seems that our culture and traditions make 'bring-the-barangay' acceptable. How can I politely make sure that the invited guest will not bring an uninvited companion? Its not a question of budget; its the principle of the matter - my fiance and I want a small wedding. But we don't want to offend people. How can we make this work?
since your short guest list is made up of hand-picked friends & relatives, it would be alright to call them and firmly say that you would really appreciate it if only those named in the invite would attend.
something like "tita, basta ha punta kayo ni tito sa kasal ko. kayong dalawa lang po. sorry hindi ko po maimbita yun iba. gusto po namin tayo tayo lang" tita, i really expect you and tito to attend my wedding. just the two of you! sorry can't invite everyone else. we really prefer a small intimate gathering.
