Florida Wedding Photography

I'm an amateur photographer... right now it's a hobby, but I've developed such an immense interest, I'm looking to make it my career. I'm particularly interested in pet photography, but I want to get a feel for most, if not all, types of photography (wedding, portaits, nature, sports, etc.) before making a decision.

I'm on a tight budget, so ideally, I'd like to find a studio that offers paid training so I can learn and still get paid for my work. I've contacted several Sears Portrait Studios with no response... any other suggestions or ideas for studios with paid training or individual photographers who would be willing to take on an assistant in the Central Florida area? Also, any advice in general? I've read up on SLR techniques, filters, lenses, lighting and pretty much any other basics I could find, but am pretty clueless right now about the business side of it (my goal is to start my own business).

If you are interested in learning studio photography, Sears is a good place. I have worked at a Sears Portrait Studio in PA for almost 2 years now and have learned a lot about studio photography. The training is good on the whole. However, they do not allow animals in the photos so you will not get any experience for your main interest. You will get a lot of experience with children.

South Florida Destination Wedding Photographer Serving all of South Florida Palm Beach - Miami and all other destinations Virginia & Brandon ...

I will be moving my wedding photography busines from Tampa, Florida to Portland, OR.
Does anyone know how the market is for wedding photographers in the Portland Metro area is? Would you suggest I market to seattle as well?

I live in Tacoma (30 miles south of Seattle), and I have lived in Portland. Have family and friends in Portland.

I think you would probably do pretty well in Portland and maybe out onto the Oregon coast. Seattle is 200 miles from Portland and when you've done it tons of times it gets really boring to drive. Portland has a pretty good population and some great old churches for weddings. Since Portland is on the northern border of OR and WA theres alot of people in Vancouver too. And again the beaches.

You may need to venture further north to get some business at first, but I am sure you wont have to go far from home to get work pretty soon.

In Florida, you're probably looking at $2000 minimum for a good, high quality professional. A lot will depend on how long you'll want him/her, what other options (such as albums, additional prints, etc.) you'll want, and then the popularity and professionalism of the photographer.

My husband and I own a photography business in Pennsylvania. My cousin, who lives in Florida has asked us to do her wedding. She wants our $1,000 package. What would you charge?

We are figuring to go down there for about 4 days (driving), we are looking at about $750 for the short trip (since we wouldn't be doing any activities or anything, just hanging out with family.) Would you just charge that and do the photos as a gift, or would you figure in something on top of the travel cost too?
No, we wouldn't have been attending if we weren't asked to photograph...due to expenses of travel and time off for our Mon-Fri jobs

If I were in your shoes I would do them at cost. Meaning that I would charge for travel expenses and any costs to develop pics, or albums or whatnot. I wouldn't charge for my time to shoot the wedding or anything like that. Tell her that you are only charging what it is actually costing you to do this, and that is their gift. Then you won't have to worry about getting a gift as well. I'm sure she would appreciate that much more than another toaster. Photographers are really expensive.

Our budget for photography is $2,000-$3,000 - which won't get us the best, but photography is one of the most important things to me. I want awesome wedding photos and a kick ass wedding album - and I'm scared to death of getting a bad photographer. Does anybody know of any good ones? We are getting married in Spring Hill, but I'll take suggestions as far away as Tampa. Thanks!!
