A girl called and asked me if I would do her wedding photography for her in a couple months. I'm practically done with my photography school (already learned the wedding section) but I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to weddings. What would be a good hourly rate for my time, and what would be a good rate per picture?
I would say $100 per hour for your time plus actual costs times 1.25.

I would like to take some photos at an upcoming wedding this next spring. I am new to photography and I am taking classes now on how to use my camera. What I would like to know is what equipment I will need. I will just be taking casual, practice photos and using this for a learning experience.
I have a Nikon D40 (I am thinking about getting a D80 or a D200), I have a 18-55mm lens, a 70-200mm lens and an SB800 flash (do I need a diffuser?).
I am considering purchasing a 70-300mm af-s vr lens.
What else do I need to consider? Thanks for your help!!!
I also have a tripod.
What kind of wedding it would be... outdoor/indoor, day/night?
If I were you and it's an indoor or night condition (or both)... I'd use the18-55mm exclusively because you're going to need to use your flash very often, and telephoto lenses aren't very useful here (you can shoot from a distance but the flash won't be able to reach it anyway).
A diffuser can help a lot but I myself like to bounce my flash off the ceiling so I don't need it that much. Except, of course, if it's an outdoor wedding.
I don't think you're going to need a new camera or lenses for the time being.
A tripod would definitely help, but keep in mind that it only will work on a still object during low light condition.
If you're into it, you might want to bring a studio ligths or two with umbrella/soft boxes. But also keep in mind that those lights aren't so portable so usually I only use it for a family photo and so on.
I hope this helps!
I want to know if anyway does wedding photography and if you went with another photographer to learn how to shoot or did you just take some classes and started up your wedding biz on you own?
The people side of it I think I can handle I am not a spring chicken to say the least and I own a business now a hair salon. I already do wedding hair and deal with brides and their mothers. I think I can handle that part of the business OK
I used to do weddings. I worked for a small studio in Oregon. I learned from actually working with the photographer who owned the studio as it gave me practical experience. If you can find one who will let you tag along then its the best way. Otherwise classes will help. Some photographers will let you go with but will not pay you.
One book I would recommend is: STORY TELLING WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY by Barbara Box - ISBN# 0936262931 - You will want to do the basic poses but to create a unique package you need to also work on your eye for the unusual. Runs around $5.00 + shipping on Amazon.
I am a Baptist who attends a Pentecostal church and graduated from an all girls’ Catholic high school, so I'm pretty open-minded to the different branches of Christianity. However, after all of my wedding invitations have been printed, I learned that flash photography during the vows, ring exchange, and minister's preaching is not permitted. Although this church has a booklet listing the rules during wedding ceremonies at their church, the contract does not state this specifically. Is this common for all wedding ceremonies within the Presbyterian church?
I am inviting youth praise dancers (ages 5-13) to perform at my wedding; is dancing allowed in the Presbyterian church?
If you're unhappy with it, first talk to the priest about exceptions. Then if he/she is still unwilling, I would take the time to change the place as you only get married once and I know you want to see these pictures for the rest of your life. God bless!
