I am trying to figure out how you break into photojournalism and wedding photography in NYC. I am also trying to figure out how you begin to assist photographers there. rates and such are so different here (NC) and so is how you get the work. It seems impossible to get info from anyone and sometimes a gal just needs a little help. A little goes a long way and I am willing and able to put in whatever work I need once I can figure out how to begin.
NYC is one tough nut to crack..Alot here is not so much what you know. As is it getting your foot through the door, from who you know..
But then your stuff must be good..
Good luck to you Sugar..

I'm looking into a wedding at a non-traditional venue in New York City, but one that wants to start doing lots of weddings. They have no pictures or information on their website, because they've only done a couple of events so far.
Do you think they'd give me a bigger break on the catering if I agree to let them use my event photos to promote the venue?
Possibly, but keep in mind that your photographer will have to give you the rights to do that with your photos. Talk to him/her about it... they will more than likely be happy to let the venue use the photographs and get his/her name out there even more.
Good luck!

I was just on a site that was telling people's wedding stories and this is what I saw...
Venues: St Fransiscus Church; Beach reception on Renaissance Island
Hometown: New York City
Wedding Date: July 26, 2008
Bride’s Dress Designer: Demetrios
Bridesmaids’ Dresses: Butter dress by Nadia
Florist: Provided by the hotel
Photographer: Diana M. Lott Photography
Wedding Coordinator: June Jones
Honeymoon: Island hopping in Hawaii
Trash the Dress Location: Various spots along the North Shore of Aruba
Rob & I decided we wanted to do something different. We had gone to a bunch of weddings recently and wanted ours to be unique. After visiting Aruba in January of 2007, we fell in love with Renaissance Island. The Renaissance Aruba Hotel owns a small island ten minutes by boat off the coast! The boat picks you up from the lobby of the hotel and brings you straight there.
My question is...what the hell is with the "trash the dress location"? I've never heard of this before.
It's where you go with your photographer the day after your wedding (or when you return from your honeymoon) to take relaxed pics in your wedding attire. Contrary to popular belief, there is no damage done to your dress unless you want to do something drastic to it. No one is requiring that you do it, and more people than not actually don't do it.
It is a type of photoshoot that was introduced just a couple years ago by L.A. photographer Jessica Claire under the name "day after shoot". Somehow along the way, the name was changed into something that is offensive to many people even though there is no damage done to the attire, but it throws them off anyway.
