Traditional Wedding Photography

I recently photographed a wedding for a family member and now I'm trying to decide what to print. Usually I just take the photos and give the CD with a release form to print, but I wanted to do a few prints as a gift to my cousin and his new wife. I'd like to do 3 8x10's but I'm not sure which three photos to choose. They won't tell me which they want - they just say "Whatever you think is best".

I've got all the standard stuff - documentation of the ceremony, formals after, reception, ect with more creative stuff as well. In traditional wedding photography, what would be a good choice for 3 8x10's?

the one that hits you as your favorite for one of the 3
2nd one should be the best one of the bride and groom
3rd one should be their family!

My brother-in-law is getting married for the second time and has asked me to be the photographer. Since it is the second wedding for both bride and groom, they're not going all out with the traditional white wedding. I've been looking for suggestions for pictures, especially since I'm not a pro, but am only coming up with first time brides in white dresses. I know it won't be a traditional wedding, but I still want them to have special pictures of their wedding. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am a photographer with Digital slr gear. i would love to get into self employed photography, working from home. problem is i have no experience with this type of photography.
how could i build the skills? is it a good idea to do some for free (ie friends/family)? should i try to partner up with a photographer for a bit? should i start with "budget" packages to those that do not want to spend £800+ on a photographer and concentrate on the traditional style and build on my creativity?
Re: the point below about doing freebies when there is already a pro covering. i would love to do this, but feel that the pro might not be too pleased. any thoughts?

I'm looking into a wedding at a non-traditional venue in New York City, but one that wants to start doing lots of weddings. They have no pictures or information on their website, because they've only done a couple of events so far.

Do you think they'd give me a bigger break on the catering if I agree to let them use my event photos to promote the venue?

Possibly, but keep in mind that your photographer will have to give you the rights to do that with your photos. Talk to him/her about it... they will more than likely be happy to let the venue use the photographs and get his/her name out there even more.

I am getting married next June. Which is better for photography- the photojournalism style or traditional. My Sister got married 1 year ago and went for the photojournalism look but then we missed out on so many family photos. Any suggestion?

I would go for the photo journalism if you liked your sisters photos. Just demand from your photographer that you want solid portraits even if they are relaxed portraits. There is no excuse a photographer can give for not providing family portraits if those who coordinate the chaos of gathering family can get the job done. People don't like bossy photographers and that's what it usually takes to get family photos done. This is why there are photographers that dread this part of the day. If there is ever tension or judgment flying around it's then. So assign a family member to rally up the troops and knock out the photos in 20-30minutes. Ask for what you want if they can't do it don't hire them.
