My husband and I both have children from previous marriages so we made all 5 of them a huge part of our wedding ceremony. We gave the photographer a list when we first met with him with very specific photos we wanted taken. He assured us it wouldn't be a problem. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary with our request. Well when we viewed our proofs I noticed that NONE of the photos we had asked for were there! When I confronted him, he said that because of the wedding day schedule he didn't have time to get the ones we wanted. He got all of the traditional pictures, but none with just us and the children. I guess with the day being so crazy and so much to do & remember, I didn't think of it while he was taking the pictures. We can't go back and do it all over again, and the photographer keeps telling me that it's my fault he didn't get to take them. What can I do?
I was a wedding photographer's assistant for 10 years...it is his fault. His assistant is to have that list, and no matter when it happens...those pictures are to be taken, before the ceremony, after the ceremony, in a quiet room at the reception...the assistant is to make SURE the bride's request is met.
Since you can't recreate the day, your best compromise now...get him to do some studio family photos. The upside to that is...it will be in clothes you usually wear.
www.dombower.com This video i tell you the basic needs for a "wedding" photographer. from the type of camera and lenses to the attituded ...
Here is the problem... I am having a private beach wedding & the reception is going to be a few weeks later. We are on a very tight budget for both so I asked one of my friends (who is a professional photographer) to take some pictures at the reception only. When I called her just to make sure that we were both clear on the date, she said she was going to charge me $400 for pictures of the reception only!! Another family friend (also a professional) offered to take pictures for free (as my present from her) and just give me the digital disk from her camera so I could do what I wanted with the pics. How do I tell friend # 1 that I can't afford her services and that we are going to go with friend #2. She is going to be a the reception regardless and I really dont want to hurt her feelings, I just cant afford her on my tight budget.
Ok from her side of the situation:
I used to be a professional photographer and I hated taking pics for family weddings but they always came to me because I didnt charge them anything. I wanted to simply enjoy the wedding and reception but worked it instead. And it is work.
Be honest but tackful. Simply thank her for being willing to shoot the pics but "someone has asked to give you the services as a personal gift. " Don't mention money. Do state that you are happy that she will be there to help celebrate the day.
we are looking for a photographer
wedding in sonoma
prices?
Natalie Calder in Marin is the best I've ever seen. We used her at our wedding and all we got were complments on the photos and her attitude while there. Here is her website. Cost depends on what you want from her. She is certainly inline with the costs of others and a little cheaper in my opinion. Send me an e-mail if you want to talk more.

My future bride has stressed to me the importance of a wedding photographer but I just wanted to know how integral it is to capture the moment.
I know we will get one but is it a good idea to have kodak cameras around so other people can take? I dont want a siutation that occured like in the King of Queens.
We are getting married we hope in Puerto Rico.... so does anybody know any Wedding Photographers who resides there ?
I really feel like professional photography is the way to go with any wedding. The way I see it is, you're spending all this money on all these things, big and small. At the and of the day what do you have left??? Just the photos! The dress gets packed, the cake gets eaten, the music stops and the honeymoon ends. The pics are the only part of the day you can look back on and smile at. These are also the only way to capture those small details that will be forgotten when its over.
If you can only afford one thing, get the photographer!
I would call your hotel in Puerto Rico and see if they can recommend someone.
Good luck!
I have recently shot my fiance's brothers wedding and it was perfect. The job, the adrenaline, the pictures (and of course the wedding!). I want to do this more, to create a business from this experience. Where do I get started though? I have already asked family members to keep me mind if anyone asks about a wedding photographer, but what else do I do? I'm on a tight budget so I can't create a website (yet anyway) though I do have a portfolio printed I can show. Any tips?
That is exactley what I did four years ago.
First off get a business license, its important to be legal.
Second advertise on free listings like Craig's list
Third get a myspace page that is free and you can display your work there until you can get something else together.
Fourth find an album vendor that you like, its important to have products like album selections to display your work for meetings. I use albumsinc.com
Fifth have fun and enjoy it, its a great way to make a living
As the money comes in you can expand into local listings on yahoo and google if you still do not have a website.
By the way, a website can cost under 100 dollars if you buy a template from template monster and have a little html knowledge.
One last thing: sierrabride.com and partypop.com offer free vendor listing. There are dozens of sites that take free listings for photographers just google search wedding photography in your region and the look through for free vendor listings. Good luck!
Our New House! Check Her Out! ยป Charlotte, North Carolina Wedding ...
Hello fellow blog readers! I have been MIA for a couple of weeks now, due to the move. But I have MANY posts lined up this week to make up for all of the non-posting. In fact I have THREE posts today, so check back later on for those! Here’s post number 1!
So I am about 50% settled into my new house, and I have gotta’ say. As stressful as this has all been in the last few weeks, I simply LOVE my home. It’s about 70 years old, and it is the dream home that I have prayed for my whole life. It’s not big nor small. Just right. I’ve always wanted a colonial or tudor style home, and in this case I ended up with a beautiful 4 bedroom/2.5 bath Dutch Colonial on almost 1 acre just half a mile from my mom’s and near one of the best elementary schools in the state. I mean it does not get better than this -and I never wanted more than this. I was never one of those people who dreamed of having a million dollars, living in a mansion, and driving exotic...
