First let me say congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
I don't know about the average cost of wedding photography in your area, but I would suggest the following. Call around to some of the local photographers in your area whose work you like and find out what their rates are.
In addition, if the average rate for a quality wedding photographer is about $3000, do not expect to get work of that caliber at a fraction of the cost. To many times I have seen people regret hiring a cheap wedding photographer. This day hopefully only happens once in your life. Do not take the chance of not having it photographed correctly.
Hire the photographer you like based on the quality of his/her work, not on the price.
