What is a good starters camera? How many megapixols would be acceptable?
I am trying to keep the costs under $800 or so. Any recomendations would be appreciated! :)
I wouldnt be using this camera for wedding photos. I would upgrade if I like the courses and I find I am realyl good at it. lol.
There isn't one good start camera for any purpose so I am going to name the one I would get with the amount of money you are willing to spend.
Buy a Nikon D40 kit and a flash. Then save up to buy yourself a 85mm and an 28mm (both 2.8 or so) and a 55-200 VR (in that order) as soon as you can. I am sure Canon has an equivelent camera and lenses just as good or suitable for your (starter)needs. Starter because of the body which you may want to replace. The 85 and 28 you will use for the rest of your life.
Wedding Photography Workshop Seminar
Use a Nikon D70s, willing to work as an assistant, Dublin area or will travel.
My husband tried this in Ireland last year done a few weddings and christening, do a few weddings free and they only have to pay for prints (www.photobox.ie) great for ordering prints from and album Drop leaflets in local churches. he used a canon 20D, he was also in full time job, but their is a lot of work involved on the day getting everybody in photos, editing them afterwards meeting couple before and after wedding to see what photos they want taken and going through photo options afterwards.
Contact a few photographers in local area to see it the need assistance, but once you do a few weddings you will soon see why they cost so much money, there is so much work involved.
My husband didn't continue doing it,(its a full time job on its own) he's sticking to underwater photography holidays only!
Best of luck

hi
im 19 and have this crazy idea that i want to be a wedding photographer :D i did a full time fashion course at college and also a part time photography course...went to do fashion at uni, then decided i wanted to be a photographer! lol so i know a fair lil bit about taking pictures and posing models. i know its best to become a pros assistant first before starting anything so ive mailed loads of photographers in my area but not one has got back to me :( i have also checked out wedding photography courses where you pay hundreds for a few days in a small group photographing pro models. but are these courses a good idea? i mean, they know how to pose ect. a real bride doesnt. i have thought about setting up a website and building up my own portfolio online. but im not really sure!! have my own nikon d40 camera and 18-55mm lens. have thought about hiring out the rest of the equipment i need for the moment. do not know anyone who is getting married yet. so would like some help!! xx
First, your camera and lens are just fine ... you WILL need a SB600 or SB800 flash and a few 2GB memory cards ... that is the good news.
The maybe bad is that before you get going on your own ... work for a successful pro wedding photographer (best if they are also a portrait photographer with a studio) for a couple of years. You will learn how to work with irate mothers of the bride, what traditional wedding shots are supposed to look like when you are finished shooting and learn the business of selling prints. As you may know the shooting fee ($3000 and up) only covers the photographer showing up and taking the photos. The families then get a CD of "proofs" in which to choose the photos they want to buy. Selling those prints is the other half the job of being a wedding photographer.
By the time you have a few years working with and for a pro, you will be ready to go out on your own ... and by then there will be better cameras for you to use ... BTW, some clients may want their photos taken with real film, so you will have to be ready for that as well.
Im not the main photographer at this particular wedding, but what are the best filters to have when taking an outdoor/indoor wedding. the wedding will start around 6pm. plenty of light available. Ill have a diffusion filter, but will not photograph the entire wedding in that filter of course, but should i get a:
UV haze?
Skylight 1A?
Neutral Density?
other suggestions?
what about for indoor, i.e. reception, dance, etc. ?
This depends a great deal on style, but typically I don't use any filters indoors but occasionally use a B&W KSM Circular Polarizer outdoors to super-saturate the sky etc...
UV Haze and Skylight won't really benefit your pictures much/any in this context, but may protect your lens at the cost of some resolution. Neutral density would mostly only be used in a wedding context if you have REALLY fast glass and have a hard time shooting wide open in bright sun. Graduated neutral density is too much setup for weddings IMHO. Warming maybe, but I usually just warm up the shots in PS and save another piece of glass from hurting my resolution.
Rather than filters, maybe consider spending the money on renting some cool glass from a site like ziplens.com or lensrentals.com
i want to get into Wedding Photography but don't have the time or money to go to Tafe. I'm looking for a legitimate online photography course.
May be this site can help you

Just got back from our 9-day trip to Victoria, Australia. The main purpose was to photograph a wedding in Melbourne ( view the photos here ), but my wife and I took the opportunity to enjoy the countryside as well. My apologies to those who emailed or called me, I’ll reply your emails as soon as I can.
Travelled about 1200km over 6 days, from Melbourne to the Great Ocean Road via Lorne and Apollo Bay, spent the night under koala bears in the wild in Cape Otway, went on the 12 Apostles and back via Colac. Caught the earliest ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento, but our dolphin swim was canceled due to bad weather. Skipped our planned scuba-diving trip and went on to Cape Schanck for stunning views, then on to Phillip Island to see the penguin parade, it was about 10 degrees C that night but felt much colder with the ferocious wind! From there we went on to the Dandenongs for its beautiful gardens and then to the Yarra Valley for a ballooning trip at sunrise, some wine tasting and then on to Healesville to see more animals and some delicious Devonshire tea :) Back in Melbourne, we enjoyed the sunset at St Kilda, and were treated to a surprise encounter with some penguins up close at the pier.
