Is it necessary to buy parents albums when arranging your wedding photography?
We are planning on having a great photographer at our wedding, but the only package that includes them is $8000, well over our $3000 photography budget.
They do however, offer an add on of "pocket" albums that will be smaller versions of our coffee table style album, and these come at a reasonable price.
Would these be a good idea, or would it be taky to get the smaller ones for them?
I personally, really like the smaller "pocket" albums and would like to have one myself in addition to my full size leather bound book.
Any ideas?
(And, getting a "cheaper" photographer is out of the question, I've been cutting corners with a few other aspects of the wedding, I will not budge on having a GREAT photographer capture the day)
just to clarify.. these "albums" are the traditional.. photos stuck in a book.. they are actually printed on the pages, in scrapbook fashion, with a glossy coat like looking at the pages of coffee table book. The small photo is just like that. We will recieve a traditional proof book as well (to order from), and a CD, but it will be 2 years after the wedding for the CD.
I mean't.. they AREN'T traditional photo albums.. sorry about that.
Does the photographer include a CD of all of the pictures from your wedding? Now a days most photographers will include that.
What you might want to do is just take the CD down to Walmart, print the pictures yourself and arrange them in a nice album.
That is what we are going to do. We have one album for us, then we are going to do it ourselves...or perhaps have walmart or target do the album for us. Much cheaper that way...and you can get any size photo's you want and you can include as many photo's as you'd like.
Whether you are in the midst of wedding planning now, or were happily wedded years ago, what tips, ideas or advice can you share with other brides? What do you wish you had done differently, or what are you glad you did? What unique, personal touches did you include in your own wedding? Do you have any cool ideas on: party favors, wedding party gifts, bridesmaids attire, invitations/programs, child attendants, showers/bachelor(ette) parties, the ceremony/vows/etc, wedding cake, photography/videography, the honeymoon? (These are just 'prompts' to spark your memory - you don't have to answer them all!!) I am finishing my wedding planner/workbook and would like to include tips from real-life brides. Your input and ideas would be a huge help!!
First off, congratulations on your upcoming marriage! May you have a healthy, happy union.
After being very happily married for 18+ years, my advise is this: You don't want the wedding to overshadow the marriage. A wedding is just for 1 day, but your marriage should last your lifetime. Rule number 1: Don't sweat the small stuff. Rule number 2: It's all small stuff. Don't get so wrapped up in the knitty gritty of wedding planning that you forget the most important reason which is why you're there in the first place. Good luck and best wishes to you both!

when planning for the photography and videography of the wedding, what should i expect from a consulation? as in what types of questions should i make sure to ask?
1. Be sure to see sample albums/videos. For the photos, make sure they show you a good selection of photos from the same wedding. Sometimes they just pick one good photo from this wedding, and one from this one, and one from that one. But, you want more than one good photo! So make sure you look at a sample wedding album from start to finish to make sure all aspects of the wedding were taken well. I made this mistake. I saw a few samples, and thought they looked great. But the photographer was only good at certain types of pictures.
2. Ask wedding photographer/ videographer if you would be able to provide a list of must-have wedding photos. Like if you want to make sure to get a photo with your grandma, you and your mom all together. This was a mistake I made with my photographer and when the photos came back there were very few with my family and lots and lots of his family. I should have given him a list of photos I really wanted taken.
3. They will probably also want to know the number of photos you want taken, etc. This will be for pricing. Make sure you do your research on pricing in your area so you will know what price sounds good.
I've been negotiating with a wedding photog that I really want to book. however, he requires payment in full by the wedding day (5 weeks). he sent an email asking what i suggested a "fair" payment option would be as he doesn't normally do payment plans...what should i say???
I can totally understand asking for the full price ahead of time. I am still waiting for money for weddings that I did three months ago. However, they still haven't received their photos either. My worry is they probably will get divorced prior to ever asking for the photos, and then I'll loose out anyway.
If the photographer has a good reputation, and you have a signed contract, then it shouldn't matter if you pay before. You will have to pay him/her anyway. If it is a money issue, then discuss that with them, assuring them that you will indeed eventually pay. Another way to look at it as well, if he wants your business, which means he should compromise his payment plan to keep you.
Ask him if you can pay 1/3 now, 1/3 day of the wedding, and 1/3 the day you receive the cd/dvd. That's what I do with my clients, at is seems pretty fair.

Ch. 5 - DIY, Doing It Yourself | Here Writes the Bride | Picture ...
In July 2010 (the month of the wedding!) I will be a graduate with a master’s degree and hopefully a teaching job lined up for the upcoming fall. However, until this so called job is a reality, the finances are tight. So, instead of buying EVERYTHING we have decided to tackle a few projects and make them ourselves.
Here are a few things on the to-do list:
Bridesmaid’s Cards Monogram Save the Dates Invitations Invitation Inserts Programs Favors Card Photo Box Patio Centerpieces Cake TopperThe problem with this long list is that while I to be crafty—I am not! However, Justin has a secret craftiness inside him that he has shown through numerous projects around the house. So, with his help and friends and family I have faith that we will get the projects completed.
As we complete the projects I will share the experience as well as pictures of the final products. This way you will have no pre-conceived expectations and will be impressed with...
